  1. Assuming the strategic objective is to bring the game back to one played by a few small to medium towns and couple of cities in the North, at the elite level, then this new structure should have a very good chance of achieving that. Whether that will encourage broadcasters to dig deeper in their pockets when negotiating the purchase of TV rights or improve the appeal (which would appear to already be quite low) to better quality sponsors offering higher sponsorship packages would seem doubtful.
  2. The game was disappointing because there was way too much ball dropped by Hull with minimal or no contact. Hull were magnificent in defence but the object of the game is not to see how long you can hold out for whilst constantly giving the ball back to the opposition.
  3. Really? I can't recall our world cup win or tri-nations win in the last 10 years.
  4. You were going great until you mentioned Folau. He didn't feature in the 4 nations. So on second thoughts not so great. Shenton's departure from the final due to injury allowed the flood gates to open down the side he'd defended up to that point.
  5. He's in the perm any two from 4 or 5 group after Tomkins and Eastmond who for me are the only two certainies amongst the half backs.
  6. Was this your caucasian moment.
  7. It's not interesting. You're just offering ill-informed opinion. If we'd signed players who were current Aus, GB or NZ internationals at the same time as having no leavers in the current squad then there may have been some point to your post. However, none of the players signed are of that calibre.
  8. Yes you are. You're making thinly veiled accusations. Before waiting with your baited breath I suggest you go through the current squad and establish who is leaving or retiring and then match that with who is replacing. Then go away and check how the cap works.
  9. Reading the article, it looks like someone has dropped a clanger!
  10. The custodians of the game can not ignore the long term strategy of the game. The fact that previous custodians of the game have has resulted in their being no longer a presence in Liverpool, a weak presence in Manchester and one on life support in London. I never thought I'd see the day that RL was pushed out of Manchester but if Sale get into the new Salford stadium and Salford are not in SL then that would be another black day for RL.
  11. Widnes yes in the short term and Fax maybe also in the short term. The question for me is what do they do for RL in the long term. Barrow and Leigh definitely not. The problem for the RFL as they seek to grow the sport, though grow maybe an over ambitious statement, perhaps maintain might be a better view, is that the game as a limited geograpical spread at elite level. This limited spread makes it less attractive to sponsors and also allows the national media to give it limited exposure. Whether the latter is fair is something that can be debated however, the limited geographical spread is a strong justification and one that is factually correct. The last 40 years have seen the erosion of RL within the old Lancashire boundaries and in particular around Manchester. A quick look at the league tables show that Swinton, Rochdale and Oldham are virtually dead. Salford have been on life support for a number of years. If RL can not maintain a strong thriving presence in Manchester then it really is signally the fact that it will never be a national sport.
  12. Why don't we just revert back to the time when RL was just one division.
  13. Only really relevant if you want RL to continue as a sport where at the elite level it is confined to a few small towns in the north west and some areas of yorkshire and humberside.
