MotoGP 2016

Recommended Posts

Okay, I missed out on the first race, but Qatar is usually a bit of an antiseptic experience.

Argentina, on the other hand, was a little bit mental. The race had a mandatory bike change, due to safety concerns over the tyres supplied by Michelin. Effectively, we had two 10-lap sprint races.

Maverick Vinales proved that the Suzuki is very much up to speed following their recent return to MotoGP, at least until he crashed. Jorge Lorenzo looked uncomfortable before he too crashed. Marquez just rode the nuts off a misbehaving bike, getting it sideways in the corners and wriggling like mad on the exits.

Then, after the pit stop, Valentino Rossi was struggling and got overtaken by the battling Ducatis, who managed to take each other out on the penultimate corner of the race.

Marquez 1st, a rather surprised Rossi 2nd and Pedrosa 3rd.

Jorge Lorenzo has announced that he will ride for Ducati next year! Now he's declared, expect the musical chairs to start in the other teams...

Moto3, Jerez, and South Africa's Brad Binder started in last place. He overtook all 34 other riders to win, making up 20 places in the first two laps alone!   :O

Brit Sam Lowes took his first race win of the season in the Moto2 class.

All I can say is ride to the line !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fancy paying all that money then leave just because Vale's engine's blew

Just finished watching the race highlights. Shame about Vale, but what a race! What a scrap in the last few laps! What a finish!

I also watched the Moto3 race, thanks to AcrossTheTasman, and that was proper mental from lap 1 to the flag. Even towards the end of the race, the top 20 or so riders were separated by less than 3 seconds, and the slipstreaming into turn 1 saw some outrageous overtaking manoeuvres.

My main criticism of ITV4's highlights is that they deal with the Moto2 and Moto3 races in about 2 minutes at the end of the programme.

The Assen TT may have finally moved to a Sunday, but it's still the one for unexpected successes.

First-time winners in both Moto3 and Moto2, and now Yonny Hernandez is leading the MotoGP race on a 2-year-old Ducati!

First-time winners in all three races, as Townsville's Jack Miller won the MotoGP race on a satellite team Honda. What a day of incidents!

Rain again, and another topsy-turvy race. Marquez and Honda picked the perfect time to change bikes, and Cal Crutchlow (GB) took second.

Congratulations to Brad Binder. A very popular World Champion in Moto3, with 4 races still to go.
