Elite 1 Final to be held In Narbonne on Saturday 3rd June. Good choice I reckon. On L'Equipe 21 television channel FTA too as the England Test was. Organised on the same weekend when both Catalans and Toulouse are playing across the Channel - some joined up thinking at last.

I agree with you, Gordon.  I do really hope this co-ordinated thinking becomes the norm for all parts of the treiziste community.

Parc des Sports et de l'Amitie hold about 12,000. Been used often over the years. Good location as regards Perpignan, Toulouse, Carcassonne and Avignon. Lots of pitches around the Stadium to facilitate all the other games envisaged. New one to me having the Elite2 Final alongside too. If the Aude sides prevail could reach near capacity.

The document from the French federation

Thanks for posting that, Barnyia.  I like the adverb 'treizistement' which I presume translates as 'rugby-leaguely'!

My boys won't be happy! There's a big tournament on the Sunday in tonneins (aquitaine) and usually the tournament is sponsored by a big theme park near to tonneins, the Saturday in the theme park and Sunday a massive tournament or vice versa, looks like it will be cancelled to accommodate the super xiii tournament the day of the final,

Has Narbonne never taken to RL?

Narbonne like Carcassonne switched to rugby league just before the War 1939-45. Both where top union out-fits at the time with the former French champions in 1935-6. After the War while ASC stayed treiziste Narbonne reverted back. When the Dragons arrived in 2006 Narbonne along with USAP were in the Top 14. Both now relegated in Pro2 with Narbonne particularly struggling.

Bit disappointed with Avignon’s effort Saturday at Carcassonne conceding 8 tries in a 42-18 loss. Too many cheap penalties early on hurt SOA and the Canaris made them pay. Twenty unanswered points up to the break. Have to say impressed by the hosts who are playing a very open and expansive game with Miloudi the competitions form player of the moment. Another who stood out was this lad Pomie whos suddenly arrived on the scene. Where’s he from? Visitors nearly got back into it with two converted scores soon after break but then fell away again to be well second best. Cameo appearance from Goudemand at lock for visitors - just one impressive line break but not much more. He still looks class though - otherwise he wouldn't be in Colognis Tricolores long term plans.

Still SOA are the only team to have lowered Lezignans colours so far as the Corbiere out-fit finish as the autumn champions and the ones to beat in the spring for the title I reckon. ASC only lost by a 2 last week in the bath that was the Moulin – could be between these two come Narbonne in June. Champions Limoux – who couldn’t raise an U20s team at the weekend in Perpignan - seem to have lost their way a bit but they’ve picked up more injuries than the others I think. Dragons U23s turned them over at St Esteve fielding half a dozen of last years Academy side. Jerome Guisset has utlised 26 players already this term – as is their raison d’etre.

What's the situation with Goudemand, I keep hearing good things about him but hasn't been picked up by a SL or even Championship team.

The union has a massive strong hold. I've played against lower division teams in beziers, montpellier, Lyon, Bordeaux, Paris there's a team in nantes but never one in narbonne, maybe because it's so close to lezignan and perpignan and there's a few lower teams around these areas.

Are there any plans by the FFRXIII to try and re-establish Rugby League in the town?

Whilst it's population is not massive, strategically it would be a nice pin on the map to get back playing the game.

I think an Aude Cathares team creates an opportunity to bring big games there.

Yes I believe the season will be moved forward by one week too, it's so they can get the final of the playoffs on tv and use of narbonne stadium, should be another great game lezignan v st esteve/xiii Catalan the 22 January, last week ends league game was a cracker!

Dragons U23 impressively competitive again Sunday at leaders Lezignan going down by just a penalty goal difference (28-26). They’ve done well too against both the two other Aude sides also – who yet again dominate the comp. This year an improvement on the chaotic format last term. Although the top half of the ladder is established  there seems some improvement below which is encouraging. Promoted St Gaudens won in Perpignan and turned up at Avignon at the weekend losing (38-20). Villeneuve made ASC work hard Saturday on the banks of the Lot too (14-25) and are better than last time out. Palau down to 12 early doors responded well under Elima's leadership at Albi going down  (44-26). The other week the Tarn side lost by a whisker at Avignon too – the Vaucluse out-fit the only side to lower the autumn champions FCL colours thus far. Winter break now till the ‘retour' rounds commence on the second weekend of January.

I think the cathares idea is dying off a little! Especially as 3 of the 4 teams fighting to win the league this year are limoux carcassonne and lezignan, all fighting for the same players and junior players etc.

Despite the competitiveness of those teams in Elite 1, does it need to kill off the idea? Could Cathares not do as Catalan and Toulouse have done with their team playing in England whilst supported by the clubs playing in France?
