Pretty much the same show, just with different presenters. As for them, Chris Evans has always been shrill, while Matt LeBlanc was a little wooden. Early days.

Bring back the classic presenters - Noel Edmonds, Angela Rippon and Wooly Willard!

Pertinent quote from the Guardian: "Did you ever see the first episode of the last incarnation of Top Gear? It was rubbish. It was just as rubbish as this. Nobody knew what they were doing. James May wasn’t even in it. It took a full year for the last Top Gear to become Top Gear. So judging this new version on 43 minutes of footage seems colossally unfair. It’ll find its footing in time.

Still, this episode is still rubbish."

The initial reaction on social media will inevitably be swamped by the pro-Clarkson lot, who would never have accepted anyone else... and many of whom probably thought that Jezza should have punched that underling for having a foreign name, let alone not providing a hot meal.

Amusing that the clarkson fans are saying its so bad when it was a pretty faithful version of his schtick.  Non clarkson fans realised it was a bit rubbish long ago...

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

The press have been bagging this programme before its even broadcast.

Was decent. Le Blanc has a decent dry sense if humour for a yank star.

Evans is a touch excitable but you know what you are getting with him.

I agree, it was decent. The segment getting to Blackpool was dull, but the Top Gun bit was good (actually we could have done with a bit more Sabine), and so was the nomad one.

I didn't watch it but if it was an attempt to copy what has gone before then I doubt it will be successful.  Clarkson made that show what it was and it was a massive brand as it was.  They would have been wiser IMO making a fresh start.

Less content than under Clarkson. Segments too long. Then I really did fall asleep.

As regards content, they seem to have removed the car discussion bit from Top Gear and given it its own programme (Extra Gear) and presenters. It also had a feature on Sabine Schmitz and her racing career. All stuff that would have been part of the main programme in previous series.

Hence the overlong feel of the segments, which were also a bit samey.

A load of sexist right wing tat.

But very popular.

With sexist right wingers perhaps?

The Chris Evans show with cars to put it  bluntly.

Le Blanc good on script, not so good in the studio.

Sabine Schmitt and Chris Harris, real motoring talent sidelined, oh dear!

If Top Gear was Lego this would be the version your Gran would get off the market. It looks like Lego but baby this ain't Lego.

I'm neither, but I always enjoyed it.

Most people make the mistake of confusing the TG characters with the people playing them.

Come on. Clarkson hit a producer, used racist language and was provocative in Argentina.  Was that a "character?"  I don't think so, Clarkson plays Clarkson, the other two are non-entities.

I like James May's solo programmes.

It doesn't really matter what your (or my opinion) is/was of Clarkson and Top Gear; it was a very popular programme in many social groups whether you/I like it or not.

I didn't.  I haven't watched the new show.  I'm not really interested in cars.  They get you where you want to go, I drive approx. 30k pa.  In my experience the standard of driving in this country has declined markedly in the last ten years or so.  Rightly or wrongly I attribute this decline to Clarkson.
