Personally I am of the opinion that American footballers are just confused rugby players who play their game whilst being frightened to death of being without all that body armour. Why do they have offensive and defensive teams?other team sports can do both.Plus a game of American football lasts for a millennia.Thats my view anyway. It's a frustrating game to watch,I have tried in the past.More stop, start than Union.

I keep an eye out for the results of the Indiannapolis Colts - know a few of their players past and present - i guess that is my team

I have watched a few superbowls but thats about as far as it goes for me

I can just about follow the rules and a game now

Just to put the size into perspective of its popularity the College game is so popular that its attendances for this teenage league are bigger than our premiership football league. The AFL have average attendances of 90 k with a waiting list for season tickets meaning a decent Fev attendance would probably fit in a quarter of a stand (thats not being rude of course) also top players sign for tens of millions of dollars.Puts things into perspective dont you think.

There are 3 teams Offence,Defence and special teams .When attacking the team has four chances or DOWNS to try and go forward 10 yards if its first down and 10 and they make 8 yards its then second and two.Thats the basics of it.This sport is light years ahead of any sport.I remember watching Jay Shroeder of the Washington Redskins looking through photos taken by the Zeppelin blimp above the pitch looking for weaknesses to exploit in the oppositions dsfence and that was in the eighties LIGHT YEARS.Mick Gibbins told me he missed his calling to become a defensive player on big money.

I went to a game a few years ago and when you're in the stadium it really flows, because you're so far from the field the live play looks like a high camera shot. Then they show it close up on big screens so you see the detail of what happened. By the time that's done they're ready to play again.

Upshot I really enjoyed & would definitely go again.

I watch as many games as possible have been doing ever since it was first televised over here on channel 4 sponsored by the Daily Express about 40 yrs ago.I enjoy it almost as much as championship RL and more than SL.If the players didn't wear padding their might be some nasty injuries as players often go into the tackle helmet first, although in the last few years they have increased safety standards and are trying to make it favour the attacking sides. In the last 9 years 7 sides have won the Super Bowl so it gives teams a more equal chance than SL or Premier League Football.Tonight's game New York Giants at Pittsburgh Steelers looks a very even match.SKY2 kick off 9-30pm enjoy.

ive been watching the game since 1984 when it began to be televised on ch4 with nicky horne hosting the show.

i remain a Cowboys fan after seeing Tony Dorsett run 99 yards for a touchdown.

i like the way the game is run with ALL sponsorship and TV rights monies being distributed equally to the teams and the way the disciplinary dept. takes no nonsense and the teams tow the line without question.

ive always tried to imagine which players would make the grade in rugby league and reckon lawrence taylor would have made a fantastic 2nd rower with eric dickerson and jerry rice as wingers....

I'd still love to see em play without their helmets and 1980s shoulder pads. Our lads are better athletes and they're also braver(a quality I admire in our boys).Get these yanks on a rugby pitch and let's see what they're made of.I suppose its a game I just don't get. But it's all down to the individual.

You say our lads are better athletes.

I read an article in a newspaper a few years ago about how australian rugby league fitness coaches were going over to the USA in the mid eighties to study NFL teams' methods to improve their own players back in Australia.this included diets and mental strength techniques.

And we all know who have had the most consistently best national team and domestic competition in the rugby league world for decades.

Show em a game of rugger, either code without helmets and 1980s shoulder pads and let's see their reaction. One thing I'd like to know is why do they call scoring a touchdown when they don't even have to ground the ball?.Why do the games go on for what seems an eternity?.I still don't understand why they different teams to attack and deffend, why can't one team do both as in most other team sports. The problem with the Yanks is that they take something, tweak it and call it their own eg- basketball (netball) and baseball(rounders). The joke about baseball is that they have a world series consisting of teams only from the USA. Just don't get American sport.Oh well, never mind.

The american footy players are some of the best played athletes in the world.

It may not be a game you enjoy but millions of americans do and don't give a toss about the origin of the game.

Its a made for tv package.... so sells zillions in sponsorship and advertising rights. The strips, colours, etc all play a part in selling the brand.

Fair play to them. I have a passing interest in the sport but nowt more than that. Being better than either code of rugby is a purely subjective opinion based on ones own preferenced.

youd expect an RL player to create gasps of amazement with their skills when they come to play gridiron, but they dont. Look at Jarryd Hayne for example - played a few games for 49ers then swiftly moved to the reserve roster never to return. Theres a lot more to the code than you perhaps think.

I'm a big fan of NFL although i don't really support anyone a have a soft spot for the Bills.

Been following it in detail about 6 years now since i went to New York on Honeymoon and i've been to Wembley to see the 49ers.

I'd love to see a game live over there..........when Jacksonville finally move to London i'll defo go watch them.

The pad argument is ridiculous........in Rugby you tackle by wresting to the ground on the hope of getting the ball.

NFL is all about head first collisions......all you have to do is knock someone over.........not tackle or hold them down or lay on them........ just knock em over.

Some of these fellas are well over 20 stone and fast...........if they didn't have helmets and shoulder pads someone would die the first week they tried it.

IMO we have imported enough yankee rubbish to our shores, ie: graduation events, Halloween etc.

Almost forgot the X factor and so on and so forth.

There's a uk version of the NFL shop

http://europe.nflshop.com/stores/nfl/en?portal=KGARN965&CMP=PSC-KGARN965

You can also get loads of caps and t shirts direct from the uk new era shop

also if you're local every so often loads of NFL nike gear arrives in the Nike outlet store in Glasshoughton......... i've seen jerseys there for a tenner.    A lot of it tends to be leftover stock from the previous NFL London games.

It's a certainly well packaged and marketed sport which is ideal for TV. I too used to watch those higjlights shows on C4 years back. But sitting through the 3hours+ to watch a game, or even paying to go and see a match, is too boring for me.

Comparing NFL & its athletes to RL seems pointless. Two very different things.

Live isn't so bad.........there's always something going on during the stoppages in play.

As for regular games i watch redzone which effectively flicks across all the games at the same time so there's always something happening.   Sounds strange but with the play by play nature of NFL it's easy to see when i team is looking like they are gonna score so you can just flick across live to see if they do.

Once i got used to it effectively being a series of set moves rather than a fluid rolling game i really enjoyed it.      I think RL could really take off in North America because of the comparisons between 4 downs and 6 tackles.........however we'd need to market the game with the hype and precision the nfl do which frankly will never happen.
