  1. i dont agree with NZ & Australia administrators withdrawing from the world Cup, but I understand it is very tough on players from NZ & Aus to attend the Cup. NZ based players from NZ warriors for example haven't been back to NZ all season to see extended family and friends and another 6 week tournament plus 2 weeks in quarantine is a lot to ask, i can understand that is just to much to ask for some. Anyway I had part of my last post removed due to covid content when the whole reason for Australian and New Zealand is not attending the Wold cup is due to Covid. As a result of this censorship, I wont be posting in this site again, all the best to you all, bye.
  2. Very disappointing decision when you consider that the Olympics are going ahead with Australia & New Zealand participating. It remains to be seen if this call was based on the players or just made by administrators? For players I understand it is tough. NZ warriors have been based in Australia for almost 2 seasons now, whole NRL has been relocated to Queensland. Players would have to undergo 2 week quarantine when coming home after the tournament. But Australia and New Zealand could just select players prepared to do 2 weeks quarantine after the World Cup.
  3. Had Never heard of Sebastien Vahaamahina before but according to Wikipedia from New Caledonia but Polynesian Wallis & Futuna background, played for Perpignan & France at Union. Im starting to think the indigenous Melanesian Kanak people of New Caledonia may not be into rugby? This side could recruit some Melanesian PNG players to help promote the game in the Indigenous Kanak community. They will be no shortage of Wallis & Futuna professional rugby players with links to New Caledonia to recruit from. The amount of pro rugby players of wallis & Futuna background Via New Caledonia in French Rugby kinda reminds me of Polynesian players in the NRL in Australia Via New Zealand. https://theconversation.com/from-the-pacific-islands-to-france-migration-hope-and-deceit-in-the-rugby-industry-67343
  4. Demitri Pelo is Polynesian from Wallis & Futuna but raised in New Caledonia. The below Rugby Union article is about Wallis & Futuna producing the most professional Rugby players per head of population. https://www.rugbypass.com/news/tiny-nation-produces-professional-rugby-players-per-capita-earth/ A movie called Mecenaire is based around a player from Wallis & Futuna via New Caledonia going to play in France.
  5. The word Tattoo comes from a Polynesian word so no wonder half the tattooed people in Britian are influenced by polynesian tattoos. Anyways New Caledonia is a Melanesian Country except for the island of Ouvea which was settled by Polynesians from Wallis & Futuna a long time ago. In recent times thousands of people from Wallis & Futuna have migrated to New Caledonia as they are both french territories. Where im going with this in both codes of rugby the only professional players ive heard of from New Caledonia all have Wallis & Futuna heritage. Dose anyone know if many Melanesian Kanak or French European people play rugby in New Caledonia?
  6. Going by his appearance, last name and his style of tattoos I'd say Axel Mauvaka ancestry is Polynesian.
  7. Potential is there for any country I can remember back in the day Henry Paul was selected for the Kiwis after playing for the Jr Kiwis as both sides were on tours of England. Didnt Sam Burgess play for GB against Kiwis as an 18 year old and smash Fuifui Moimoi. European countries with small talent pools to select from like Scotland, Ireland, Italy or Greece would be mad not to include standout players from the Euro U20's in there World Cup squads. Even solid performers in Euro U20's could get a call up if there are injuries to senior players to add to squad depth and for future development.
  8. Ok havent been to New Caledonia so dont know anything about the health system but I have been to French Polynesia, that was some time ago but prices are also expensive there. Regarding the standard of living from what i understand New Caledonia has the next highest standard of living in the pacific region aside from Australia & NZ. The New Caledonia union comp switched to league around 15 years ago but they switched back to Union a few years later. Former Cronulla, Canberra, Catalan Dragons and French Rugby League representative Dimitri Pelo was born in New Caledonia but his parents were originally from Wallis & Futuna. As for Standard of the Queensland Cup id say its currently probably the best semi pro comp in the world
  9. New Caledonia seems like the best location for a French Pacific 13 side as it has a population of 300,000, is a 2 hour flight from Brisbane to Noumea, has a similar standard of living to Australia & NZ due to Mining, French Government support & Tourism. But rugby league hasnt been played in New Caledonia since 2006. The distances between Queensland, Wallis & Futuna & French Polynesia are massive and no Rugby League is played in those territories, but there are communities from those territories living in New Caledonia. The game would have to be reestablished on New Caledonia as well as guaranteed funding and player recruitment from the pacific and France confirmed, before QRL would consider accepting a Queensland Cup bid.
