  1. Off to see this whirlwind of a band on Thursday at Leeds Brudenell. I unexpectedly have a spare (free to you) ticket if anyone wants it. The support act is a young Manchester lad with a huge future
  2. This lot have got a new album coming out and are touring the UK in October (got tickets for Leeds). They have gained a fabulous reputation as a live band.
  3. I remember Wire drawing Chorley away in the Challenge Cup. Doug was MP for Warrington North and his son was MP for Chorley. They innocently wandered around the perimeter of the pitch at half time and got an impromptu standing ovation on all 4 sides of the ground. It was absolutely lovely to see. I really hope there's some footage of it somewhere.

  5. You need to stop typing your opinion as fact. If you do, I’ll refrain from calling you a forum troll.
  6. 11,214 in attendance. I'm guessing that's the most home fans we've had in that stadium for quite some time. Well done Wire, shame about the result. It was frustrating but entertaining enough to hope that most of those in there today will be back.
  7. I couldn't agree more. I'm sure all SL fans have anticipated the cup draw and hoped for a new place to visit. Instead we get Wigan in the draw every year despite playing them at least twice a season. I'm old enough to have watched Wire at York, Batley, Hunslet, Keighley etc in challenge cup (and old 1st div) games. They are all great days out and they are the lifeblood of the sport. We need more of that to keep everyone interested and to keep the sport alive. I've just remembered another game. Chorley away. It must have been a challenge cup fixture. The landlord of the pub we went to said he had no idea what was coming and had sold out of everything except pop and whisky. True story. Do any other Wire fans recall being there? Lindsay Hoyle (Chorley MP) and his Dad Doug (Warrington North MP) walked around the perimeter at half time and got a spontaneous round of applause as they went round.
  8. Very impressed with Mike Eccles in his post-match interview. Honest, realistic and proud. What a thoroughly decent bloke. I sincerely hope London come back soon as a competitive force in SL. I've enjoyed every single trip to watch Wire there over the years at various cuckoo nests. I thought Ealing would work but that's another story. I wish them nothing but good luck and maybe another massive benefactor.
  9. I think I posted this on the wavering 'best cover versions' thread a while back. It's absolute perfection in terms of its spontaneity and harmony. Two great talents.
  10. Irish broadcaster RTE just released a documentary about my favourite band of all time, the Hothouse Flowers. I can't explain how emotional I feel after watching it. To me they are a smashing band that I've been following live since 1990, but now I've just spent an hour with wild, uncontrollable goosebumps and it means even more. I think this story could extrapolate to a thousand bands who have stuck together over many years. It's a great story of friendship and loyalty and all sorts of positive things. To quote one of their best songs, the documentary and the story are a real 'Thing of Beauty'. https://www.rte.ie/player/movie/hothouse-flowers-stick-around-and-laugh-a-while/498203176017
  11. Not yet mate. Poor conditions to be fair, it's lashing down. The highlight so far was the juvenile Bentley trying to get Walmsley to smack him one but Walmsley just ruffled his hair.
  12. It's a billion times better than the Leicester v Gloucester union game we tuned into before kick off. But even that doesn't make it good. We were laughing out loud at it. At least our players have basic skills.
  13. Maybe they've finally got sick of that *@!-- drum and trumpet and are boycotting matches. I've turned the sound off again because it drives me insane. I don't understand how anyone puts up with it. I can only hope Saints win by a big margin to stop the inane drumming.
