PNG fans - has to be seen to be believed

Recommended Posts

I've said it before and I'll say it again that whenever I see scenes like this in PNG surely to god there's more that can be done to fast track PNG into the top tier of international RL nations. I know that we have the hunters playing in the Queensland cup but what about an U20's side in the Holden cup or maybe even a 2nd PNG side in the Queensland cup. Lae for example. Also have any NRL sides partnered up with any of the digicel cup sides and maybe ran coaching clinics in and around PNG??

If this had been cricket or rugby union I think that is exactly what would of happened by now.

Exactly. There's only 2 things holding back PNG from breaking through to the top tier of RL playing nations and that's :-

#1 lack of development and structure i.e. Exposing larger numbers of PNG players to a higher standard of RL at both senior and junior level thus creating a pathway to the NRL.

#2 lack of money to implement #1.

careful Phil, I tried declaring PNG a dangerous country following the death of a fan after a local fixture in Port Moresby on another thread and was denounced by some as a scaremonger.

I don't recall seeing any reports of unrest at the match or that the Aussies were fearful for their lives, all I saw was thousands of locals celebrating seeing some of their hero's coming to their country to play against their national team, something that they are sadly deprived of on a regular basis and which needs urgently addressed.

No trouble at a game is hardly a criterion for a city's safety but hey go there, try taking a walk one evening

try taking a walk in most cities in a evening , dont take a wrong turning !

Some cities have more wrong turnings than others.

Considering that same list claims St Louis, Missouri has a homicide rate of 2,600 per 100,000 population, meaning nearly 8,000 people would be killed there every year (it's actually 49.9 per 100,000), I would take that site's claims with a bucket of salt.

Most American cities have numerous areas you wouldn't send your mother in law, don't see the NFL moving franchise's,Rio has a reputation for muggings and even murders but still hosted an Olympics and a Football World Cup.

I don't see what that has to do with creating more viable pathways for PNG players into the NRL.

When i saw that all i can say is - png deserve a club side in the nrl! Nrl expansion side next must be a png side id love to see that.

I'd also love to see it but I'd be very surprised if it happened. Ever. More realistic would be another Queensland cup side from lae with a PNG u20's side playing in the Holden cup.

That is not the whole story.  Do not be a cry baby.

Someone was killed at the most recent football match I went to and that was in England
