And it now transpires that Brisbane coach, a certain Mr Bennett, the man entrusted by the RFL to aid the international game, has refused Anthony Milford the opportunity to play for Samoa! Make of that what you will.

No, the RLIF rules prevent Milford from playing for Samoa because Milford changed his eligibility to OZ.

Some media articles are saying Milford would meet the requirements as the restrictions runs out a few days before the game.

Yes I read that and it's technically correct but it means Milford has to stay with Samoa until after the WC.

3.3 A player who is eligible to play for more than one country shall be entitled to elect for which country he wishes to play.  When a player plays a Senior International Match for a country, he is deemed to have elected to play for that country.  Subject to Rule 3.5, once an election is made the player may not play Senior representative rugby league for any other country until the end of the next World Cup tournament, or the expiry of two years, whichever is earlier (“Election Period”).

3.4 After the expiry of an Election Period, the player may elect to play for another country if he is eligible, but once he so elects (or is deemed to elect by playing in a Senior International Match) he may not play for another country until the expiry of another Election Period.

3.5 During an Election Period, a player may change from one country to another for which he is eligible pursuant to Rule 3.1, with the approval of the Federation (but he may only change once in each Election Period).

So Milford has to make up his mind. If he plays for Samoa on 6 May, he can only play for Samoa at the WC2017 then he would need to wait at least 2 years, without playing for Samoa,  before playing for anyone else. It's not clear where this would leave his Origin status but, hopefully, it would force the ARLC to make a ruling on Origin, one way or the other.

I say Milford's 21, explain the various permutations to him, tell him to make his own decision and don't bend any rules for him in 6 months when he wants to change his mind. Don't forget he also wanted to play for the Junior Kiwis.

That all may be true but it's up to the RLIF to enforce the rules not a coach - Bennett has no place getting involved

Milford has not played an international this cycle, he could elect to play for Samoa next weekend and switch to Australia in 2017 if he wishes, which is of course ridiculous but allowed under the current rules.

Both sides lined up for their ethnic bogan rituals, which just looked like a long. stupid staring contest. I don't think they knew who was going first.

No we're off. Samoans yelling and threatening carnage against Tongans. - it's just like every Friday night in Mt Druitt

Now that's weird. The Samoan jumpers don't all match. The white figuring on the back is only both sides of the number on half the jumpers.

Game of 2 halves.... anyone could win ...... team that scores the most points will probably give themselves a good chance of being there in the last 10 minutes ......

Some great play, just lacking that execution on the last-tackle plays.
