  1. Wakefield Trinity v Australia in 1990. Not a game of silky skilled flowing rugby league but plenty of excitement, some decent tries (Andy Mason), loads of biff, plenty of red and yellow cards, Bobby Fulton's verbal set to with Harry Gration after the match, all played in monsoon conditions.
  2. 2016 First State of Origin in Sydney. Queensland won 6-4. Travelling to the game on the train and the build up in the stadium was great, then they kicked off. I'd finally got to a SoO and ticked one off my bucket list, but was so disappointed with the game. Having watched many of them on tv over the years there always seemed to be some great footy, great tries and a fair bit of biff but at this one I was bored. I've watched most of the following ones on tv since and have seen some great games but this one just left me thinking, " is that it?".
  3. Makes a change from the Aussies dictating who refs the game.
  4. Look here, the match will be played under whatever rules the Australians tell the RFL they're having.
  5. One of the last great ball handling forwards along with Lee Crooks.
  6. Further breaking news: Mafeking has been relieved
  7. Different owners, different players and no brass.
  8. ATEOD does it matter the ratio of adults to kids? It is people young and old watching Rugby League at Wakefield probably in numbers not seen for many a year at Belle Vue. A winning team (hopefully) will get the young wanting to come back in future years, and us oldies may yet see some silverware at the club before we shuffle off. As I've said on another thread, it won't be easy in the Championship, there will be 'blips' along the way but the feeling is that something is building at the club and ticket sales to date are an indication that people want to be a part of it.
  9. The upturn in interest is probably down to a two or three factor: Having a new owner who has 'a few quid' but also the business acumen to run the club. A whole new coaching and back office structure. A ground that is at long last being developed. This combination of factors has led to a wave of optimism and excitement for the future the like of which I've not seen in fifty years of watching Wakefield Trinity. We'll never know but, had Wakefield avoided relegation and with the factors mentioned above perhaps they might not have limped along. It won't be easy in the Championship and there are one or two supporters getting a bit ahead of themselves. There'll be some blips along the way but early signs are that a sleeping giant may be awakened.
  10. Neither has ours. He's responded to questions from interviewers and also told Wakefield supporters what he brings to the table and what he proposes to do. Communication with the supporters has been sadly lacking in the last few years, so we're finding it quite refreshing. Hardly "shouting his mouth off is it?"
