My grandson Joe, who normally does the summary on the Rovers DVD, was working for SportRadar (to supplement his student grant) at the Oldham-London and Leigh-Oldham games. Although they lost both he was very impressed with them. They are no mugs and Sunday's game will not be a formality.

Looking at the 19-man squad announced today, various options but presumably the likeliest would be Craven to continue at hooker spelled by Day, Hardman to continue at FB following his excellent game against Batley, Johnson in on the wing, same starting pack as Batley with exception of Cording or Omondroyd replacing Achurch, probably Day, Roche, Tagg and whichever one of the  Cording/Ormondroyd/Bostock trio that doesn't start on the bench. Other option would be Davies at hooker, Craven back to FB & Hardman at centre with Misi on the wing but Misi and Hardman played so well in their respective positions I doubt Sharp will want to messs around too much and although we miss Craven coming in from FB he looks a more natural 9 than Davies. Think Day will get more minutes this week, felt it was the fact that it was a struggle containing Batley up the middle that caused Sharp to keep rotating the bigger forwards last time & we won't face a pack like Batley's every week.

For me, Sam Day should start and see how he goes. He is a specialist hooker and in my view, has done very little wring when he has stepped up to first team in the past. Davies is nowhere near as effective from hooker, but has been outstanding in the back row and Craven is a seriously good strike player from the back, so would seem a shame to compromise 2 players that have been stand out performers.

I am a big advocate of playing the young lads, so would like to see Johnson back on the wing scoring tries and building his confidence back up after being affected by the dual reg. Hardman playing as well as I have seen him for some time, so he has to start at centre and Misi can go into the pack rotation, or into three quarters to free up either Davies or Craven to spell at hooker if Day needs a rest.

Don't disagree with a lot of that but Sharp hasn't made too many wrong moves yet for me and I think he's aware that a lot of our younger lads are not the biggest and he's wary of having too many of them on the field in the games against the really big, physical teams after we were definitely outmuscled a couple of times in last year's Shield qualifying games (when we had a few of the youngsters in the team).  That said, I'd like to see Day given a chance in some of the forthcoming games, he's actually a good tackler in the old-fashioned, round- the-ankles style and that style never did Andy Ellis any harm.

Cant argue with that!....and agree that Sam Day is not the biggest, but defends very well. I think he also offers a potent attacking weapon close to the line. He has scored plenty of tries from dummy half close in, but just needs to pick his moment. He can try it too often and spoil things, but that's where the coaching and clear instruction comes in.

As you say, Sharp seems to have done OK on selection so far, so lets hope whatever he goes for works and we get the right result. A few weird result in this division already this season, so looks like no such thing as an easy game.

If Kyran plays tomorrow he needs to accept that Handley will probably be back at some stage and will play when he is available. Therefore both Kyran and Scott are up against each other for the remaining wing spot, which must be healthy competition.

And there's the dr argument...

If Hanley is available and the coach considers his value greater than what we have in our own squad... Hanley plays.

It's up to any other players to displace Hanley.

Small squad. Injuries/suspensions, we need DR. But I'm sure that Sharpe will pick who is playing best for the position. If we had signed the DR people wouldn't the situation be just the same? Who plays best gets in.

Why should Kyran or Scott accept it, if both are playing well and deserve a place in the team they should play

Playing well and deserve a place are the operative words. I am sure that if they do then they will.
