Kiwis set up have finally stood up to Australia rugby league after years of finding it difficult to get home test against the kangaroos & Australia procrastinating about an end of season test this year they now want one again!!1?? NZRL has said NO we have tour of England and cant fit you in at late notice!

Interesting how CEO mentions KIWI team is Vital for the game in NZ and the NZRL's main source of revenue through sponsorship. TV rights, merchandise and paying spectators which funds NZRL various programs including youth set up. Twice they agreed to play and Australia reneged on the deal, now Kiwis have won and they have a product they want a game again at the end of the year again NZRL already set England tour up... very indicative of how over the years Australia rugby league has treated its mates? and just not a professional way to do business by the ARLC!!!

Part of the problem is always that Aussie sport is a slave to television.  They don't want to do "what's right" for development, it's all about ratings.

I think most of the number-crunchers at OZ TV networks would tell you that OZ TV is a slave to sport. The amounts paid for TV rights in such a small market would confirm this.

When you say "Aussie sport" do you mean all Aussie sport? Like Netball, Cricket, Swimming, etc? How is Australian Netball failing in it's apparent duty to develop the game.

Of course ratings are important. What planet do you live on? What do you think funds professional sport? 4 million Australians watched last year's Origin Game 1. This is why our best players are still playing in the NRL, not French or Japanese RU.

If we turned our backs on the huge potential TV markets how many new potential fans would we attract to the game? You don't think RL on TV is the greatest available development tool. RL starts in countries where they've never seen live games. They learn it from watching TV but they won't if the ratings are so low that TV channels don't bother showing it.

Origins going to be around for a while no worries about that. Just been taken down a notch that it needed to be, plus Australia needs state of origin representation in the likes of W.A & VIC they could play each other & help break the 2 state mentality towards the game in oz.

anyway back to the REAL DEAL test matches should be a cracker of a test series nz vs england

Cricket definitely.  Netball, swimming, olympic sports are largely irrelevant.  However, I've always felt that the structure of the Cricket World Cup has long been a slave to the desires of Australian TV to have more "sellable" games and India have now piled on.
