  1. A reliable goal kicker and more self discipline would have won the day against a good Hunslet team. Martin Ridyard didn’t play so he was a loss for us with both his kicking in open play and goal kicking
  2. I thought Hornets did well to come back against an enthusiastic Hurricanes team that worked hard both in attack and defence. We will get better with more game time which we have missed pre season, due to the weather.
  3. I think we also have to factor in that the squad have only had one preseason game due to the weather. Match fitness is a great asset and there’s only one way to get that?
  4. Yes I feel our division is well thought out for 2024 given all the problems of 2023 so there’s more optimism around the club. I feel that we can all play our part, as supporters, by backing the club both support wise and financially as best we can. I’m sure we all know all the various avenues that we can help financially and I hope we can go the extra mile with this in mind. It’s been some time since we all feel more confident about our club, both on the playing front and the leadership. We are all in it together so lets push on to better things for 2024.
  5. Henry was a great servant to the club as both player and coach. He gave his all in everything he did and unselfishly. I enjoyed watching him so often and he is so fondly remembered. RIP Henry.
  6. Not sure that Newcastle have given up on competing next season as there’s a meeting planned next week with everyone concerned with the club including their loyal supporters. Would dearly love them to continue, in this area of the northeast, which is a hotbed for sport and hopefully rugby league.
  7. I noticed that Ben has signed for OLDHAM on a two year contract. I thought he was a good player even though our season didn’t pan out as expected and I’m sorry to see him leave. Dont think its good to see local players sign elsewhere but loyalty has never been uppermost in sport.
  8. CATALAN lost 0-34…………….look at the tables???
  9. Without making excuses Hornets were down to just 18 players in the squad as several players were injured, unavailable or recalled from their loan spells. That’s not an easy task for any club to succeed with such a limited squad regardless of what coaching and backroom staff we have at present.
  10. Thought that was a very good display from both teams played on a really excellent playing surface. Although Hornets kept the scoreboard ticking they did fall away a little in the second half defensively, particularly on the left edge. The Hurricanes did. perform well with Murrell leading his troups and trying to referee but Hornets always had that that extra bit of guile. With Crusaders losing at home to Cornwall we are now back in the mix for the playoffs maybe.
  11. There’s never been a more important time to support the club. Look at the bigger picture with regards to what’s happening behind the scenes which hopefully will eventually reap rewards for this great club of ours. If we don’t all work together for the common cause we won’t have a Hornets to support.
  12. The last coaches disciplinary record shows to be far worse than our present coach. Furthermore our results were not brilliant given the fact that we had some good players on board and good loan players.
  13. In all fairness we did have a couple of experienced players missing due to injury, whether that would have made any difference who knows. Cannot fault the effort put in by our team but we did capitulate badly in the second half especially.
  14. I dont for one minute think Steve is slagging the supporters of and that’s a bit harsh to say so. Surely his statement means that there has been a poor response to purchasing season tickets which is part of the lifeblood of ours and all other clubs. The board and backroom staff have done a sterling job in getting a team out on the park and we, as supporters, should be backing the club accordingly. There is also no need to buy platinum season tickets if do not wish but if you look carefully a standard season ticket is also available costing £150 on the website as I have just purchased a couple.
  15. How sad to hear of the loss of the Welsh club, it would seem that rugby league is never going to take off in that part of the UK. The club has constantly struggled to compete and have had some serious thrashings which is not good for the game. Regardless, they have manfully soldiered on and have had to endure long long journeys away from home whilst other clubs have only had to travel there just once or twice. The loss of any semi pro club is not good for our game and I hope they will emerge again in the future as this division needs more teams not less.
