  1. Few things, first time Steady's played at 9 at this level , having played in the halves or full back for the past few seasons and he'll be the first to admit that it will take him a couple of games to get up to speed on the work rate and physicality in the middle of the park having defended out on the flanks for all that time .. Secondly Kesik only played 20 mins and Ben played the last 60 , normally your hookers would be spelled far more frequently than the Oldham game . Oh and Fozzie praised him for his defensive efforts in the post match interview ... As for being too small ...Paul Moses one of the Keighley Greats and hooker of this parish would have probably needed a decent pair of 70s platforms to be as tall as Steady ...#justsaying
  2. Just a quick mention on here for ex Keighley , Fev and Fax Full Back James Rushworth who's again doing his annual' driving home for Christmas ' MND fundraiser . No mountain climbing or marathons, just Rushy's end of year video from his work van as he signs off work for Christmas but from a fella with close association with friends and teammates who have fought MND, its always powerful stuff . He's up to £3500 for 2023 and he's raised thousands over the 8 years or so he's been doing it . if you've a spare tenner .... https://www.facebook.com/675685049/videos/324704370532621/ https://www.justgiving.com/page/james-rushforth-1703101468760?utm_campaign=lc_frp_share_transaction_fundraiser_page_launched&utm_content=d468b5b1-cee0-4cc2-8af8-3662d3760cb5&utm_medium=email&utm_source=postoffice&utm_term=1703101811341 <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjames.rushforth.58%2Fvideos%2F324704370532621%2F&show_text=false&width=560&t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowFullScreen="true"></iframe>
  3. Nice to see some' positive ' vibes coming to a club trying to establish itself in a non traditional area ... Firstly the Alexander argument ..just visit the main stadium and see why the club is still unable to use the main arena , plenty of areas still fenced off and construction/ removal of temporary facilities work going on .. As for taking a game on the road , as the only pro club in the area why the hell not, spread the word ? .. Derby RU have been supporting with training facilities and the Hurricanes have a couple of local based / produced players ..Bit of a no -brainer .. If you just want want to an M62 dinosaur and believe everything south of Sheffield is Rugby League hell then why not just come out and say that rather than pick pick pick from behind your keyboard when teams are trying to do something different ..
  4. Similarly All Blacks to All Golds (John Haynes ) - follows the NZ tour to this Country / Aus in 1907 the controversial start of international RL . https://www.sportspages.com/product/all_blacks_to_all_golds_44349
  5. Hadfields piece on Blackpool Borough in Xlll winters .....
  6. No probs Odd bits where he goes off on a ramble about league structures are a bit long but the majority you'll be thinking 'been there got the teeshirt ' - like the growing fear and dread as the new shirt designs are announced pre season and the issue of leaving a game before the final whistle .
  7. Anything by Dave Hadfield ....period ... the bloke was a bloody genius I personally love Wiganosophy by Matt Macaulay - never see it mentioned in any RL Book list - the blurb describes it as 'blends philosophical discourse with rugby league, and Wigan ' but its a ridiculously funny in parts look at being a modern day RL fan . Tony Hannan's Being Eddie Waring is a hell of a read and probably shares the best biography with already mentioned ' Willie' Mike Gardners look at the life of Barrows Willie Horne . In light of the the current IMG argument, Jonny Rickwoods ' Cougarmania ' a comprehensive account of the story of Keighley Cougars during the 90s era is worth a peruse- also short but sweet is 'Forward' Dave Mussons story of the Cov Bears 2018 season (as one who didnt miss a Bears game that season and does get namechecked in it I'd vouch for how accurate Daves version is )

  9. I'd stick a couple of quid on both the Skolars and Canes at those odds, dont think either of them are that way out of the betting compared to NWC , Hornets and Worky . I dont think anyone is going to have it their own way this season by any means and there will be no 'easy' games at all this year - everyone is capable of beating eeryone else and with the number of fixtures it's only going to take a couple of 'upsets' to completly change the league table .
  10. Be interesting to see how many of the Northern clubs would have attended had it been held in Cornwall or London rather than Keighley ? #justanobservation
  11. Crusaders always seem to manage to come up with a sponsor that fits the shirt 'image' ...Wrexham Glyndwr uni and the Wrexham Lager Co ... Unlike Keighley that were original due to have a massive cartoon chicken emblazoned over the front of the jersey this time , before someone finally saw sense and came up with a slightly more refined sponsors logo ..

  13. Maybe offer another viewpoint/ observation... I more than religiously followed a current Championship Club for over 40 plus years until a relative of mine turned semi -pro and he, due to Unviversity / employment has played for the last 7 years at variety of L1 clubs , mainly expansion teams . At first the thought of missing 'my team' in action every week to follow his progress was hard to take , the idea of even half way supporting another team ??? I need not have worried, from the perspective of watching RL the last few season have been some of the most enjoyable (if not always succesful results wise - glory fans certainly not in most cases the exact opposite ! ) ConsequentiallyI now have another four clubs that I would class myself as a supporter of , trying to catch games when possible , buying a shirt / merch , joining in the social media discussions et etc One thing that has stood out for me it's been as much the off field involvement , the people I've met and become friends with on my travels , thecontrasting atmospheres on gameday even the way different clubs are goverened that has been as gratifying as the rugby itself . Still love my lifetime team but involvement with others has seen me become less one-eyed and able to be more critical .. and occasionally complimentary ,not just of them but of the whole experience of being a rugby league 'supporter'
  14. While I understand the need to create more opprtunities and bigger events around the wheelchair game , I'd hope in the rush to build that the 'sport for all' ethos that runs the game is built on does not get lost in a flurry of teams of super athletes and it lose the core values that have made successful Best moment for me of the World Cup was when the Wales WChair Team visited the Special Needs School where I work, the reaction from our students to the team was something else and not just to the crashes and high speeds . For our students it showed them a sport that was truly played by everyone as an equal and not a sport ( great as LDRL is and I'd love to see us have a go but it emphasises ' difference' ) and our kids lapped up the positivity and team closeness and also ' the differences' of the Welsh squad and for a few of them could actually see themselves taking part and being accepted in a sporting enviroment as an equal ..
