Super 8's Final in Toulouse, France - Barrow or Rochdale ?

Recommended Posts

Who will be in the final with Toulouse - Barrow or Rochdale ?

If Rochdale win the next 2, they are in .

If Barrow win the next 2, they are in

If Rochdale loose 1 and Barrow loose their last game to Toulouse, Barrow are still in

Thoughts?

Barrow have Keighley at home and TO away

Rochdale have home fixtures v Doncaster and Hunslet.

Barrow have the better points difference

But it's much more complicated than just a two horse race as any two from 5 can get through via the play offs.

I still fancy Rochdale by virtue of their remaining games. Hornets have two home games against Donny & Hunslet. barrow have to travel to France probably knowing a win will put them in the final the following weekend.

Doncaster, with their haphazard form could upset the odds at Spotland as could Hunslet.

I see the Toulouse coach has announced a weakened side to play London tomorrow evening - it's still a strong squad and it's great to see so many French kids in the 19.

Rochdale poised 'twixt devil 'n' deep blue sea...beat Dons and Hunslet and another trip to Toulouse beckons...probably followed by Dons at home the week after.Should they lose either of next 2 games then they get a week off ...but then it's likely to be their Nemesis again...York.Both York and Doncaster face a punishing 3 games in 8 days which will leave them battered and bruised before the crucial semi final matches....Could still be a twist in the tail..

Hmm .. interesting ..... so position 2 could be a poisoned challis!!

And not much of a time turnaround to organise flights, as the 2nd spot will not be decided until the last game. My bets are on Rochdale making it, unless Toulouse throw out a 2nd string side or juniors and reserves against Barrow, then loose at home.

If Barrow win, it will be 2 flights and games to Toulouse in 7 days unless they stay the week for the final.

Maybe Barrow and Rochdale will be racing to loose their next 2 games, to see who can finish 3rd !!

Thoughts?  I bet the Rochdale coach is spewing with the choices.

i think Donny could hold the key here. They have been up and down all season, either brilliant or rubbish and I fancy them to get something at Spotland or whatever it's called nowadays. Houles must be tempted to rest players for the Hunslet and Barrow games though they still seem to be strong playing the replacements as shown last night in London with six of their first-choice players missing. Loads of permutations but i'm with MickHornet, i'm sure Rochdale would prefer not to go to Toulouse again and take their chances in the play-offs.

It probably makes sense for Rochdale and Barrow to throw their games in an attempt to finish 3rd.  Can't see that being in the culture of the teams or clubs.

From the Toulouse point of view, resting players would seem to be key, so long as they do not loose momentum. I'm not sure i like the format of the League 1 Super 8's. It comes down to one game for the entire season, and potentially 2 games in the play off's.

I wonder if the Qualifiers format is fairer.

Early season I was all for the present system but as the months have passed I feel the present system isn't really helping anyone either at the top or bottom of C1. I think the system will change for the 2018 season otherwise the C1 will become diluted IMO. The fixture lis seems to have been irregular with many fans losing interest. Maybe 2 divisions of 8 in each with each team playing each other 3 or 4 times with a simple P & R could be the way.

Currently I can't see the point of a top 8 team hammering a bottom 8 team, how is ths helping the lesser teams to develop ?

What is the best system  ?  How long is a piece of string ?

Of course not.

Donny have a great chance to win this game , they have players back from injury and are looking to hit some form. This game  means more to them than it does Rochdale probably. I hope decent crowd turn up as it could be a good game.

Rochdale secured a strong victory on Sunday. Looks like they will make the final and are going for it :

Barrow and Toulouse's victory's were not hugely convincing. Toulouse grabbed a winner in the 78th minute with a brilliant last gasp try.

I notice the Barrow coach is contemplating resting key players for next week's clash with Toulouse as he acknowledge's going full tilt will be a "huge drain on his squad".

Any thoughts out there on how things are panning out ?

Just mind games, not unusual at this stage. We will go all out to beat Hunslet The last time we got promoted we beat Oldham twice.Much against the odds.Toulouse will be much harder but who knows.

Exactly I don't buy into all this playing around at all that normally goes belly up. Rochdale if they go to Toulouse know they are one game from promotion - they will throw everything at it. Although they got whacked last time they know they rattled them at home and if it does get scrappy it will suit Hornets down to the ground.

No reason for it to be scrappy, Toulouse can only play one way which will always give the opposition a chance. It should be a cracking game.

I wonder whether Toulouse will rest key players for the Barrow game which could well let the Raiders in ?

Toulouse have been down 4-5 players in the last couple of games, so I'm thinking that if they are fit, TO would want their side building match fitness and momentum going into Barrow's game, in preparation for the following week.

Rochdale will have a strong squad, with their form turning back on. No doubt they will have a bevvy of experienced talent such as dual registration players turning up, like Lineham and the experienced ex SL  winger Chris Riley. The previous result shows a 40 point difference - but that won't be the case in the replay. Killshaw is too smart for that and they have time to plan, unlike the previous visit which was at short notice.

Playing each other 3 or 4 times is certainly not the way to go.

The present system isn't working. No team is benefitting from either winning or losing by a cricket score week in week out.

The RFL regs on DR can be found on their site tho' I have to say it's easier to understand the working of the female mind than the complexities of DR !

As I understand it only two DR players qualify to play in the play-offs and they are Lineham (Warry/ Hornets) and Palaaesaena (Hull / Donny).

Does any form of DR operate down-under Snowman ?
