Blind side johnny
Great interview, looking forward to the Wolfpack next season. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p041h1w9 Fascinating. The way that he tells it the opportunities for RL in Canada are big indeed. Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change. JoneslessBishop
I have very rarely heard the plight of our sport in the UK articulated as well as by Eric Perez. He really knows what he is getting into and how he can help. Very much a figure to be embraced

St Reatham
The guy's enthusiasm and commitment is to be commended. He's got me sold. I agree that the only way to grow the game is to open up into new markets. I'll definitely b purchasing a Wolfpack jersey.
kiwis 13 6
I hope they do well and eventually have a professional spin off series of there own in conjunction with USARL, JRL, We need another pro league and North America would be perfect place for it... and this guy has the passion for and contacts to help make it happen but for some reason he is fixated on being in Super League! If a guy like this with his contacts got together with like USARL what they could potentially achieve could be amazing if they eventually set there minds on a North American Pro Rugby League Competition. Starting up the Worlds 3rd fully professional rugby league competition in North America would seem to be a challenge that could be even more lucrative... Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and Vancouver would be fine for an 8-team tournament.
JoneslessBishop
Not sure you can garuantee the crowds across so many games and venues. Yet. Would be a good start. Have the other group and SFs and final in France/ UK. Bob's your uncle, Transatlantic Inter-Continetal Cup.

Mark S
Nice to hear someone in the game be positive ABOUT THE GAME! He seems to have done his homework and is confident enough to delivery on his promises. Good luck to him, he could be the next Chief Exec of the RFL. Anyone who can do what he has done, even to this point must be worth a crack.

brooza
Im not sure how that would work with 8k paying fans at Leigh & 7K freebies at Toronto. They've not even been announced as hosting the tournament yet and you already know the ticket prices! sweaty craiq
Was introduced to Eric in 2014 after the CC game v Leeds, he tried to buy Leigh, he is a mad as a box of frogs and has enthusiasm oozing from every orifice, hope it works in Canada before RU gets a hold
JoneslessBishop
If you have 6 games in Canada you could get good crowds, including Montreal. Getting good crowd across 13 a much bigger challenge. And lose games in the UK, which is already starved of interntional RL. Doesn't make sense. Yet. I don't think we are talking about 7k at Leigh. We are talking about 50k at the Olympic stadium then 80k at Old Trafford

Rob
Inspirational interview. Dave Woods seemed to relish in trotting out the flat capper questions, his best being "We could end up with Toronto, Catalans, Toulouse in Superleague in a few years' time - that doesn't sell well to a British Broadcaster" What male genitals. Can't wait to see them all on TV. www.heyshamatoms.com
TheReaper
Having seen both this and the Premier Sports interview, I can't help but be impressed by the guy. Not only his enthusiasm and drive, but also his knowledge of the game. Clearly very innovative too. He does take a little liberty with his history of Canadian football though Not that it matters to any of the brits he's talking to.
jim_57
I'd love to see Canada host a pool of the intercontinental cup, it could really be the start of RL "breaking out" so to speak. I wouldn't mind at all if the Intercontinental Cup had 1 pool and maybe finals in non traditional markets each time, even if it meant an auto qualifier as host nation. A Random example: 2019 - Canada/UK 2023 - PNG/Fiji/NZ 2027 - Spain/Italy/France 2031 - USA/Australia
Damien
Perez really is a breath of fresh air and even if he can be half as successful as he is aiming for it will be some result for the game, Super League and Canada RL.
Guest
Perez really is a breath of fresh air and even if he can be half as successful as he is aiming for it will be some result for the game, Super League and Canada RL. I don't see why the Wolfpack can't be a big hit in Canada especially after the recent success of the Canadian national RL side in drawing crowds of 7-10,000. The 1 huge advantage that the Wolfpack will have in attracting fans, media and sponsorship will be the international aspect of playing against English sides and potentially French sides. This is a bold and exciting move both by Perez but most importantly the RFL who I'm not normally a big fan of but who could have just breathed new life into the international game by opening up the Canadian market to RL. Add to that the decision to let the Catalan dragons into super league 10 ago and with their U19 side and mooted reserve side allowing a clear pathway for French players into professional RL. plus hopefully the same structure for Toulouse will see France becoming a major playing top tier RL nation in the not to distant future and Canada in the long term.
