  1. Unbelievably sad news. Condolences to all concerned.
  2. Congratulations to Huddersfield they never put a foot wrong in the first half and completly dominated us from the start to finish of the half. It was nice to see the up turn in performance in the second half but there was just too much to do. I don't think the half time score flattered the Giants at all and if anything it could have been greater! Very disappointed with the performances in the play off games but its been a good season overall for us. Good luck to the Giants in the next game and back to the drawing board for us!
  3. All this Danny McGuire is a cheat stuff is ridiculous. Is every player who commits an offence and gives a penalty away a cheat? Will they all be castigated in the same manner? He pulled somebody back off the ball! Wow that is terrible and has never before been done by any team. For goodness sake grow up people. He commited an offence a penalty was given (for either that one or a perfectly legitimate tackle by Donald on Richards) and Wigan got the chance to win the game which unfortunately for them they couldn't take. If this had occurred in the 16th minute and not the 80th people wouldn't even be talking about it. It's not nice to see any player suffering a serious injury (how foolish do the "he was faking being injured" brigade feel) and as an English rugby league fan I'm disappointed he is as our already slim 4 nations chances have further diminished
  4. I think ALL coaches should keep their opinions/complaints about refs out of the public domain. Refereeing is hard enough but with stuff like this in the media it adds pressure that doesn't need to be there onto the referee, touch judges and the players. If the referee makes/bottles a controversial decision in this game now he is immediately under suspicion of having been influenced by Justin Morgan even though that is not the case. Eddie and Stevo would have a field day discussing it, the players will react to it with more "justification" and frustration than normal. The ref could then overreact and the game itself becomes poorer for it. The coaches are free to talk to the referee's controller, but we as fans do not need to know about it.
  5. Winning at Saints? Wow that would be good but I agree with bewareshadows we have had better opportunities in the past, at least on paper. But I do think that the Wire side now has a different feel about it than even the games earlier in the season. The win at Wembley has boosted confidence and the squad bar one player is fully fit. I'm going for a Wire win but it will be close and the last 10-15mins will seem like months! 24-12 to the Wire
  6. DaveT I think you may be right about Westwood in the last couple of months but over the season as a whole I think Morley pips him! But Benny has come on leaps and bounds this season so long may it continue! This award is voted for by the players as opposed to the press so they may view things in a completely different light. They would certainly see notice more than your average joe and probably appreciate more the work done overall which maybe doesn't grab all the headlines but certainly helps the team.
  7. I think the name of the award "Man of Steel" seems to have a sense of toughness and power in it as opposed to player of the year. That can be the only reason that anybody could grumble at Pat Richards picking up this award (if he does). As a Warrington fan I can see the effect that Morley has on our team and he too is a worthy candidate for the honour. But I think that Pat Richards consistency in his goal kicking and the taking of the chances that have come his way are some of the main reasons that Wigan have finished top of the pile. His effect on that team is immense. In the close games (and I know there haven't been many) he has been the reason the team won (22-20 against us, 18-10 against Saints). Having said all that I cannot see why Cunningham is even being mentioned as a potential winner!
  8. I'm not sure we would pick Wigan in this scenario, I think once we beat Saints then the spell is broken and at the minute I'd prefer to play them. I have to say thought that this Coach's pick I think is actually a disadvantage for the side doing the picking and a great otivator for the side picked!
  9. To be fair to Silverwood he was on the opposite side to Mathers and so maybe it appeared to come off the leeds player but the linesman has no such excuse, I was in the top tier 5 rows from the back and as Riley broke away I said he was offside but the whistle never came. As for the colour clash I can't say I really noticed it at all.
  10. Opinions are what make the worldgo round and the discussion about this is great, I'll watch him from a different perspective next time that's for sure! Wow an actual discussion about a player and technique this definitely wouldn't happen on rlfans!
  11. Riley isn't a poor tackler at all. Sometimes his positioning means that he isn't in the best place to make that tackle but poor he isn't. His positioning will improve with experience and coaching, he is at the start of his career and will definately improve. The tackle (or attempt) in question is an example of that inexperience in positioning. If he's not a good finisher then he'll do for me. The number of tries scored shows he is doing his job in that department. All of the backs have dropped chances this year but Riley has taken the vast majority of his. He may be average as you say but he has the right attitude and is showing plenty of improvement and only time will tell whether he is in or out of the team next year bu I have a feeling that he will get his chances and hopefully he will take them. If he isn't then whoever is will have to be taking their chances or they will find themselves on the sidelines and that is the beauty of (at last) having a strong squad. It will be interesting to compare Riley at the end of his career with Hicks now to see how good average actually is!
  12. I think the try demonstrated that Briscoe has great awareness and a great step, Riley was just a fraction of a second too late and Briscoe took advantage. That said stats do not show the whole story, how many one on ones has Riley missed when abandoned by the inside defence, or when chasing across the whole length of the pitch to try and make the tackle. This has happened to him and his effort in tracking back against Pat Richards in the Wigan game to keep him out wide in my opinion won us that game. DaveT I know your not one to criticise too often but as you said, you've not been to too many games lately and I have and whilst Riley has made mistakes plenty of other players have too and I still dispute that it's becoming more regular. Statistics on their own don't tell the whole story otherwise Phil Clarke would be the font of all knowledge RL related! Riley had a wobbly patch earlier in the season but I'd have him in the team every week. I think he will continue to improve just as the whole team will!
  13. I think you're being more than a bit harsh on Riley there Dave. He missed the tackle last night but it was a great step and finish from Briscoe but I can't see where you think this is becoming at all "regular" from him. He's made a few mistakes this season but I think he has been no worse than any one else in the team.
  14. Well my prediction of a 30 point win was way off. All credit to Hull they took the game to us and deserved their lead Overall I thought we deserved the win and was dissapointed to let Hull score in the second half. We will certainly have to step up a notch or two for necxt week and I hope Monaghan#s injury is not too serious, he was still limping on the pitch at the end of the match.
  15. I fully expect a big performance from Warrington. At home with a big crowd and the excellent night game atmosphere. A few players will be trying to force their way in for next week and they all know we have to win to finish second. Wire by 30 for me but being a Warrington fan for 35yrs I can't help thinking we might get beat
