Wayne Bennett is not wrong

Recommended Posts

"We've got to play three games in eight days. With our absolute best players involved in all of those games. And we've got to do that twice. It's nine days on the second one.... we get the Friday night game instead of the Thursday night game," Bennett said.

"We've got to do that twice. It's nine days on the second one...."  Well no, Wayne. If the first one is 8 days and the second one is 9 days, logic clearly says that you DON'T have to play 3 games in 8 days twice. And people wonder why everyone else laughs at Qlders.

"We've got to play three games in eight days."  WE? I don't fully understand the Qld counting system but, if the Broncos play a game then play another 8 days later, wouldn't that be 2? Who is WE? You understand that the Maroons and the Broncos aren't the same thing don't you, Wayne?

It's nine days on the second one.... we get the Friday night game instead of the Thursday night game," Bennett said.  Yes Wayne let's just ignore the fact that the Broncos' sponsorship value is greatly enhanced by their virtual monopoly on the Friday night free-to-air TV slot. Let's pretend that it's all pure disadvantage. And again, who exactly is "WE?" Surely you understand that JT, GI, Cam Smith, Cronk, and a few others DON'T play for the Broncos.

Here's another quote, taken from the Guardian's report of the same whine:

“The five day turnaround is not the issue – it’s how much you have to give (in Origin),” Bennett said. “It’s two or three weeks later (after an Origin game) when you are just flat and can’t play. We could have seven or eight Origin players this year and they are our best players.”

and, as I commented in the Guardian:

Wayne, do you understand that you are the one who picks the team to play 3 or 4 days after Origin? Why don't you just rest those players? Problem solved, now STFU.

or,

if you must talk, please tell us how you manage to keep those 7 or 8 Origin players under 1 salary cap. (as well as 2 Kiwi Test players)

Don't you hate it when you tread in some Rothfield and you can never quite scrape it all off your shoes?

Australia gets a simple way competition with no relegation + SOO and whines because of too much game in few time.

SL gets double way competition + relegation + challenge cup and we're just scratching the surface of the "maybe we should play less games" subject.

If players can't cope with the turn around reject origin to gain rest.

Origin is an option not part of your Nrl contract. If they can't cope they need to turn it down. If the money is to great they only have themselves to blame.

Sounds like a dinosaur who is bitter in defeat.
