NRL Media Release:

The NRL said today the new Western Sydney Stadium would bring a new level of comfort and entertainment for rugby league fans.[/size]

CEO Todd Greenberg said he had no doubt it would quickly become one of Sydney's premier sporting venues.

"We have always said that the best way to attract bigger attendances is by providing fans with better facilities," he said.

"This stadium will bring fans closer to the action than ever and have all the modern comforts that fans deserve.

"When you consider that the stadium will also be near transport, restaurants and other services I have no doubt it will be a huge boost for our fans.

"The NRL looks forward to working closely with the NSW Government on the detailed design and delivery of the new stadium."

Then there was this glamorously positive video released about Parramatta developments and the new Western Sydney Stadium.

Currently there's not a brick laid, it's all on paper and video form.

According to form the earliest it could be completed is 2019

A new 30,000-seat rectangular stadium at Parramatta, in Sydney's west, will be the envy of the country, the New South Wales Government has boasted.
Premier Mike Baird and Sports Minister Stuart Ayres announced that Lendlease had won the contract to the design and build the new Western Sydney Stadium this morning.
Work to demolish the existing stadium will begin early next year and it is expected to be open to fans in 2019.
Mr Baird boasted that the new stadium would have the steepest stands in the country, overtaking Brisbane's Lang Park stadium.

Well that's still about 5 steps ahead of Wakey's new stadium which should have been ready for the 2010 season. Looks like they've spent more on the video than Wakey spent on their stadium too.

Let's be honest. It's for the Western Sydney Wanderers. They'll get their 60K crowd once a year for the Sydney FC game and that will be trumpeted as proof that soccer is Australia's Number One Game.

Waste of money! The state government sold vital infrastructure to pay for these stadium upgrades that will likely only ever sell out once or twice a year.
