  1. Fair enough, I welcome your clarification. I still wonder why Skysports has a different policy for EPCR's competitions. You look to know more than me on these matters. Is it maybe because in Union's case they are not single rights owner ?
  2. I know this has already been discussed, but today it looks more than ever to me that those who endlessly write about how Superleague could do better, have a point. Living in Italy I can pay and watch every game of NRL from their website; tonight I'll do that for Ulster vs Stade Toulousain on the EPCR site, and why on earth it's not possible to do the same for Saints vs Wigan this afternoon ? I would do it. I have nothing to do at that time.
  3. I think you missed my point. If you want everybody to agree that NRL and ARL behaved badly, fair enough. I just said that what happened is inevitable if a league ( i.e. a group of clubs ) is much more powerful than the governing body to which it should be technically subjected ( the ALR ). In theory the FA rules over all kind of football played in England, but is the EPL really subject to them ? FIFA is strong enough to stage a World Cup in November, but it's just them. Nothing can be compared to FIFA, surely not IRL. I
  4. Maybe this whole thing is just like NHL not stopping their tournament to allow players to go to the winter Olympics. They did it a couple of times but then realized it's not in their interest to do it and now the olympic tournament's level is quite low. Luckily all NHL players not making the playoffs can play for their national teams in the world championships every year, but this doesn't affect the NHL and so everybody is happy. Some would argue that the NHL's choice is short sighted in terms of developing the game in new areas, but they know their business. Good young hockey players from all the traditional countries ( Sweden, Finland, Russia, etc ) are willing to play there and constantly fill the ranks of new and old clubs in North America. I don't know if the power of NHL in the world of ice hockey is comparable with the power of NRL on rugby league on the world stage. But if I understand correctly, they can afford to ignore what happens outside Australia/New Zealand, ad they just do it. With no intent of trolling or to anger anybody, I can't help myself wondering if SL wouldn't do the same if they were in the same situation.
  5. Has anyone ever tried to use the streaming option suggested by the Superleague website ? When you do it you're directed to the Livestrem website where absolutely nothing happens. You can only see a kind of promo that keeps running on and on and it's the same I saw there one year ago when I was trying to find a way to see the GF. Usual streaming ( stusport , etc. ) are running really bad lately and right now I believe I would have more chances to see the GF if I was living on the moon rather than Italy. I'll never understand why AFL can be viewed almost every day on Eurosport when Superleague and NRL are not. Receiving Skysports outside the UK is now quite difficult, not for technical reasons, but because the subscription must have a UK address and using a fake one has become a pretty dodgy thing. I am really annoyed about the whole thing. P.S. I didn't want to look insensitive starting this when you are all thinking about much more important news, but my access to the net is not very good in these days and I had to do it now.
  6. So you watch a lot of rugby union even if you hate it. Everybody here believes to know Union even better than League, but they clearly don't. You didn't even know that the scrum setting is shaped in 4 movements.
  7. <hold> <crouch> <engage> And by the way, that sequence is wrong. It used to be crouch, hold, engage. Now it's in 4 times.
  8. I'm afraid this is becoming more and more pointless. Resetting a scrum IS getting on with the game. The game of rugby union, where running, tackling and passing the ball is not all. And penalties are, hopefully, given everytime a rule has been broken, regardless of the moment or the position in the field of play. That's the way I like it. I am a curious man and I enjoy learning new things. I never dare to say anything about something I don't know. I just see here many people writing about the game of rugby union ignoring the basics of the game and using their lack of knowledge to claim an "objective" superiority of rugby league. Did you ever argued whith a Canadian ice hockey fan about the value of speed in itself ? Ice hockey is much faster than rugby league.
  9. Five bangs over a wall and a kick ? That's what a set of six is many times. More interesting for you, maybe I would prefer to watch the scrum reset, at least I can understand what's going on. I think it's realy funny your relentless effort to convince union fans that your game is better then theirs. The games are different, why trying to find out wich one is better ?
  10. So RL fans seem to know what a union scrum should be like. That's interesting, given the fact that usually they call it boring and slow and so on, it seems they whatch it carefully. A union scrum is NOT just a way to restart the game. Is a game moment when the ball is contestable by both teams, and the advantage of feeding the ball should be little enough to ensure that. If referees don't pay enough attention on this, that's just a case of bad refereeing one part of the game, not the denial of the purpose of playing a scrum. If one team cheats in the scrum to mask its weakness is a very good thing that free kicks and penalties come out to punish them. If you don't like that, fair enough. Rugby League has chosed a different path from union and you are apparently happy about that, but let union play as they like it.
  11. RL fan actually miss the point when they look at how many times a union scrum goes against the head, and so claim they are not really contested. You should also look at how many penalties come out for illegal binding, or boring in, etc. All these come out because one pack can't stand the pressure, and this happen because the scrum IS contested.
  12. That's exactly what I meant. It looked like a big mistake to me.
  13. So here I go again with my silly questions. I hope once again some fine gentlemen will spend some time typing a couple of lines to reply. The most difficult thing I
  14. In Italy the six-yards box is simply called "goal keeper box", the box ( or 18 yards box ) is called "penalty box" and many don't even know it's 16 metres, the penalty spot is 11 metres ( = 12 yds ) from the goal line so no problem, and every boy knows that the distance on the free kick must be 9.15 metres and has little of no idea why is such a "strange" number. The dimensions of the ground can be different, but some things must be the same everywhere. I can't see any problem if english people tend to say "10 yards" instead of "9.15 metres".
