OutsiderLookingIn
Dave comment in the other thread got me thinking. ..is the humble pie a staple of rugby grounds everywhere? Where have been the best/worst pies you have had... And in honour of my very first (and only) trip to Wembley a few years ago....where was your most expensive pie purchased? SIX QUID!!!! That's more than a pack of 4 Holland pies
moorside roughyed
I love having a pie at a game. Its all part of it.As much as it pains me to say,my favourite pies are at Spotland.Though the pies at Bower Fold aren't too bad. They don't have the mass produced taste of say a Holland's pie.And yes I've seen the 6quid pies at Wembley but my son wouldn't allow me to buy any(he knows how to put his foot down). He even made us share a drink(our family do descend from Yorkshire though (joke). But rugby and pies are a match made in heaven.

moorside roughyed
I know a lot of people who are.Don't mind the peppered steak ones. But one question is-Why is there a lack of real cheese or any onion at all in a Holland's cheese and onion pie?.It's more like cheese sauce. What a great topic away from all the serious stuff.Thanks. Dave Naylor
When I was a little lad we lived in one of those two houses in between the Black Horse pub and the chippy in Watersheddings. Some of my earliest memories are of the Hollands Pie delivery van parked outside our house with the spinny air vent thing going round on top. My other half Lisa buys me Hollands pies from the Supermarket. Being a Yorky she doesn't get the significance but in their frozen form, I think they're a bit pants. I reckon it's because I've got too used to pieminister pies at Glastonbury. Now they are pies to die for.
OutsiderLookingIn
Oh no there not are they, they've never seen cheese and onion.:-) i'll have you know i found a piece of onion in one of mine...once!!! I also have another confession.....if i get one from the chippy, i have to ask them to microwave it for me, cos i like the pastry to be soft/soggy
moorside roughyed
Try Pools pies in the frozen aisle at Morrison's. They're not too bad at all. They're from Wigan(the holy grail of the pie).
Dave Naylor
Try Pools pies in the frozen aisle at Morrison's. They're not too bad at all. They're from Wigan(the holy grail of the pie). Feel the need to bust that myth. Wigan people are not called pie-eaters because of actual pies. It's because back in the day, Wigan pit workers were forced back to work from a strike through starvation, thereby having to eat humble pie. Dave W
This thread reminded me of my early days as a Barrow away supporter, 30+ years ago, having a pie thrown at me on the way into Watersheddings on my first visit there and thinking "What a waste of a good pie!" Now I know they were just Hollands, it's understandable on a whole new level Best of luck for the season!
moorside roughyed
Pools still better, they have more of a just made taste and not the mass produced taste of a Holland's pie.Probably because its a smaller firm.

The Art of Hand and Foot
I remember the stink caused up at Sheddings when they stopped selling pies and used an outside company to sell burgers. They brought vans in on match days. Think they were called central catering. Rumour had it they were owned by wigan. Dunno if that was true or not. clifford
Thought it was oxtail soup, it was bloody hot whatever it was on those sub tropical afternoons in December at shedding's. At Leeds we got tomato soup once I thought now we've hit the big time
OutsiderLookingIn
I remember a guy once, years back, that complained about the fact they only sold pies at whitebank, he asked the fella in the pie wagon, if they had anything healthier, like a burger, as he was on a diet.....
