Keighley Cougars can this evening announce the signing of Harry Aaronson from the Swinton Lions.

Aaronson, aged only 18, joins the club following two seasons with John Duffy’s side in which he made a try-scoring debut aged just 16 against the South Wales Scorpions in 2015.

A utility back who can play on the wing or at full-back, Aaronson joined the club’s reserves side on trial a fortnight ago and has already done enough to convince Craig Lingard to hand him a first-team deal.

Prior to his spell with Swinton, Aaronson was with the Huddersfield Giants academy and has also spent time on loan at both the Wigan Warriors, where impressed in the Under-19’s, and the North Wales Crusaders.

Lingard said of the signing of Aaronson: “Harry has come through our open trials for the reserves side and has already shown me enough to get into the first team and earn himself a contract with the club.

“Giving his position, it will be of great help and experience for him to work alongside Ritchie Hawkyard who can help him bring his game on massively and help develop as a player in both training and on the field.

“It will also bring his game on massively and develop as a player to be around the first-team and training alongside established first teamers and he will be given a chance to put a marker down in our pre-season friendlies.”

Lingard also confirmed that Aaronson has not been assigned a squad number at this current time.
