There are all sorts of elections happening on Thursday 5th May.

English local elections.

Police Commissioner elections.

Welsh Assembly elections.

Scottish Parliament elections.

Northern Ireland Assembly elections.

London Mayor election.

Probably others I've missed too.

Hands up if you'll be voting in any of them and what will swing your vote? National issues, local issues, party allegiance, affinity for a candidate, whichever side of the bed you get out of on polling day?

To get you in the voting mood, I've added a couple of polls to this thread just for a bit of fun. (You can vote for more than one option in these polls).

London Mayoral vote for me. To be honest, both of the main candidates seem to be promising the earth and are sliding into negative campaigning (some particularly poisonous and surprising anti-Islamic stuff put out by Goldsmith last week), so I'll be voting for Khan as he seems the most credible.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

He's been doing that for a while now, and then getting very jumpy at the mere suggestion that he's playing dirty. Goldsmith's about as trustworthy as his father.

Police election, Borough election and county council by-election.

I will definitely vote in the latter two but am really not sure how I can make anything like an informed decision on the first one.

We must be having local elections there was a photo of the local councillors litter picking doing the rounds on facebook!

Hoping we get a credable independent standing, but not seen who the runners and riders are yet to make an informed decision.

Looks like it's not too late to apply. You have two days!!   .https://www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk/2016-police-and-crime-commissioner-election-information/

Not got of to a good enough start in my view. Supposed to be calling the police to account. Don't see much sign of that. Supposed to be cheaper, less bureaucratic that the old regime: don't  see any sign of that. Too many time-serving local Sir Humphries.https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/about-the-council/how-the-council-works/committees-and-decision-making/other-meetings/sussex-police-and-crime-panel/#panel-members

Don't want to be a "told you so", but some of us predicted exactly that when they were first introduced.

And with a total turnout of 15.1% in 2012 not much of mandate from the people either.

It'll be higher this year if it's tied to the local elections.

I actually do think it would be useful to have elected - or at least more accountable - local policing but by local I don't mean 'region wide'.  In Bucks, I was voting for how Slough should be policed despite living in the leafy Chilterns and, here, what Hastings & St Leonards' priorities should be probably in no way match the rural Sussex hinterland.

oh really?

The problem is that if you leave actual implementation to the functionaries, this is exactly what you get. Someone needs to grow a pair. Still better than what was there before

Scottish elections, although the parties are doing their best to avoid telling us why we should vote for them.

Our SNP candidate sent a leaflet saying a vote for him would keep Sturgeon in power.

Yes really! I particularly remember arguing with you about it at the time.:P

Lynton Crosby is running Goldsmith's campaign so you can expect some pretty dirty politics before it's done

Looks like I'll have to do some research into who is standing in the PCC election and why the hell I should vote for them.

Oh, I just did but it turns out the information won't be available until next week. https://www.choosemypcc.org.uk/

I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

Just had my voting cards through and until they did I had no idead the PCC electiones were even taking place, just the local ones. Time to do a bit of background reading on the candidates I think.

Same here, although the current PCC in Suffolk is an acquaintance of mine so I'll actually make the effort to go out and vote for him.  Keep your friends close, especially when they're Police and Crime Commissioner :P

Not sure i'll bother voting in the PCC elections. All the candidates are affiliated to a political party and something just doesn't sit right with me about having a party politician interfering in the police at a local level. I was hoping there would be a few independent candidates standing, but sadly none in Merseyside.

We did have an independent last time round, Kiron Reid, I voted for him. The turnout was a miserable 12.44%.

Voting in the Ginseng Ward Town council election, cant be ar**d with the PCC for Sussex, as its not a county vote, it's a bi-county vote. West Sussex, and East Sussex share the Police force. I beleive we are the only tax payers to do so since 1973 when the counties were reconstituted. Yorkies may disagree

Get rid of the county police forces.  Go regional + Met.  Sorted.  Next question.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!
