Wales VS Jamaica - in Wakefield

Recommended Posts

I give up. Seriously what is wrong with the people that "run" our game. Can't the game be played in Wales??

In the article:

“Enquiries were made to a number of venues in Wales. However, at the time of getting the match sanctioned, nobody could guarantee the date would be kept free, so it wasn’t possible.

Whilst I know Wales Rugby League are working on this, it just highlights again why the sport needs a permanent home in Wales.

Wakefield stepped up with a great offer, the venue suited Jamaica and, whilst I know the WRL won’t make a habit of taking games out of Wales, we hope everyone can celebrate it as the unique event that it is."

Predictions for the future -

Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG

Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT

Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG

Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

Not ideal but WRL seem to be saying they appreciate that, on the other hand, how good is it they are playing Jamaica! Great to see emerging international teams. Would love to see more of this (even in Wakefield!)

Surely Widnes would have made more sense? Unless Wakefield has a Jamaica connection?

There is a decent sized West Indies population in West Yorkshire.

Good to see this arranged.

Shame it's in Wakefield. Surely WRL would have made more by holding it in Cardiff, Swansea, Bridgend or anywhere in Wales for that matter

I am really surprised that St Helens in Swansea was not available. It is owned by Swansea City Council. And is only used by Swansea Rugby Union. Ah. Is this the reason?.

In football, it is quite common to see International Football Friendlies played in countries on the other side of the world.

Brazil played Chile at Arsenals' ground last year, and Australia quite routinely play games in England.

Nobody, least all of WRL, are saying that they are going to routinely play their matches outside Wales, but given the logistical issues mentioned in the press release, it seems a reasonable solution this time
