  1. I don't know about four weeks ago or more I haven't been keeping that close an eye, but there are also posters up from prior to the finalists being known that I have noticed in the past month maybe. Not disagreeing, and there is obvious room for improvement, but just an answer to the observation that there is no marketing this week, that I have absolutely observed some
  2. Not sure about anywhere else, but for once in Manchester walking around town there are plenty of adverts up and the live electronic billboards updated to let everyone know it's Catalans vs Wigan. Can't recall seeing that in previous years.
  3. Are they bigger or smaller than an anonymous DJ who was the prematch entertainment the last time Catalans played the grand final? And I say anonymous not to make a point but as their name is not listed online! We have had Shaun Keavney last year and I like him, but I guess the point is a band is more of an attraction than a DJ. I guess the point was James were hired to come in and play one song to get people going - and a really good one, probably the best pre-match the GF has had. The rest was irrelevant and a bonus if you're a fan. That's what Reverend and the Makers are coming in to do. Depends on your era, I couldn't hum you a Shed Seven tune and they've only had one top ten and they were the last band to play in 2019 but I'd rather them than a DJ. It's progress, albeit we have gone a long way back.
  4. What you are asking for there is basically what Reverand and the Makers are, even though they only have one massive song people can recall (Is that any different to James really? Most people were only bothered about Sit Dwon). People will have heard Heavyweight Champion Of The World even if on an advert or whatever. It's progress, as it's the first time there has been a band in a while, certainly since pre-covid. It's been a DJ before now.
  5. Pleased to see that the Bulls are using this match to pay tribute to Rycroft Foster. Many of you will have seen his story across social media and I think it's touched a lot of people. Fans of all clubs are encouraged to wear Purple, Green and Amber amongst other tributes. Quite sad I won't make it actually, should be a good tribute. https://twitter.com/OfficialBullsRL/status/1684881394387066881?t=gNkqax8OYcJH_EaTZ7Xe_Q&s=19
  6. Don't we literally get the same stories at every contract renewal at the last moment? Oh BT/TNT/Amazon/whoever are apparently interested - but no indication of any money. To be honest, like the DANZ think likely is, it's a planted story designed to scare Sky into upping their offer. TNT probably are interested, but I suspect not so desperate for SL that they'd offer more than Sky
  7. Someone on RLfans is claiming a candidate was offered 18k! Think that's a bit unbelievable even for us This is a good post. What I would say is "heading out of control again" implies that there has been anyone in control to begin with. I remember reading someone somewhere at the start of 2021 saying the new regime should be praised for keeping things stable - to be honest I suspect at that moment in time the Bulls were one of the few groups of people on the planet thanking their lucky stars for Covid as it totally papered over the cracks of the highly suspect Dewsbury move in and move back. It's been (self inflicted) death of a thousand cuts since. I would be surprised if we were in the Top 3 highest spend in the league TBH - not saying money isn't being wasted - but there are a couple of players other people might not touch with a barge pole, even if they are a "name" and we see a result of lack of cohesion on the field. We're a club of last resort for many - see George Flannigan for one, hailed apparently as an all conquering hero just because he's from Bradford, so it makes great social media content for someone controlling the official accounts with the sense of humour of a pre-pubescent boy. With his last 10 game ban, he should have been out the door, yet we give him a contract extension. Not sure which other club would have taken him, not who would we have got to replace him. Bradford "legend" my absolute backside and sums up the state of the club in so many ways. Like anything the attitude at the club comes from the top. I said the other day, what's our short to medium term objective? Publicly we haven't a clue, except occasional mumbles about Super League. How can any coach come into that and make a difference. The brand has become toxic, and it can be changed, but there is no desire that I can see to do that. At every change of owner since 2012 I - and others - have highlighted the need to have an open dialogue with the fans, and it's never really happened. The current regime is the worst of the lot in this regard
  8. The club's media management is absolutely atrocious. The opening paragraph of the job advert is rightly laughable. And then we have the comments from interim coach Lee Greenwood, who has told the local press he doesn't want to take on the job full time as the salary isn't big enough at this level, but a full time coach is needed. Where do I sign......!? This is no criticism of Lee, fair play to the bloke for stepping up when needed when it isn't his full time job and he's been brutally honest. Again it shows that the public aspirations of the club vs it's actions are completely out of sync (not to mention a media manager worth his salt at the club wouldn't have ever let these confusing comments get in the press to begin with). I'm not saying we need to go out and spend mega bucks on a coach as we have proven time and again spending money you haven't got is dim, but if I was in an interview for head coach, I'm not sure what answer I would get from my interviewer if I asked at the end what the short to medium term plan was if I took over.
  9. It is really tough to have a good faith discussion about the current situation at Bradford for about a thousand different reasons. It’s not just a problem on here though, I think a lot of level minded Bradford fans have just stopped watching the team as regularly and posting about it as well. I admire those left that persist. For a lot of non-Bradford fans, it’s an emotive subject, and I totally understand that, but I think both sides of the debate can be a little stuck in the past. Make no mistake though, pretty much all issues at the club are of their own doing as Dunning’s spell as head coach highlights. As pointed out already, the pressure was lumped on Dunning at the last fans forum by the owner claiming there was a “worldwide search” on for Kear’s replacement. Then he tries to build his own team, but it’s filled mid year with a load of loan replacements apparently neither he, nor the players, are keen on at all. You have to ask yourself why and who is authorising that. Brian Noble is in the background in an undefined role – “chief bottle washer” he has joked on more than one occasion, but surely that is causing a lot of confusion. And then we get to Dunning’s “amicable” split with the club (could have fooled me listening to his interview on Sunday), with a statement coming from not the owner, but the CEO who is a volunteer and has zero previous experience of running a RL club. Never mind the question of are these the actions of a club with desires on Super League, are these the actions of a club that particularly cares about the welfare of their employees? It’s a complete circus, and I’ve heard – anecdotally – there aren’t many professionals in the game, be it players or otherwise, that would touch Bradford with a bargepole because of it being such a basket case. Perhaps I am wrong on that, but if I’m not can you blame them? I have no idea on what the endgame is here – there is clearly no desire to turn the situation round by the current leadership at the club. We certainly don’t have to have aspirations to be in SL – it’s laughable the club ever mention it – but what is the short to mid term aim of the club? The Odsal deal we were told by some to have faith in the chairman to get over the line, crashed and burned as everyone else predicted. A lot of eggs seemed to be in that basket, so where now...?!
  10. Really interesting article and debate. I do think there is a fine balance behind how much colour a commentator can add to an event without detracting from it. You obviously need to be prepared, but you can't prepare exactly what to say - for example I'm not hugely keen on Sam Matterface, in the England's men football semi finals on ITV he clearly had lines written before hand for multiple eventualities to shoe horn in. You need to be genuine in broadcasting because otherwise the public tend to smell it. I don't think RL tends to have that problem, even if there is some room for improvement. I think if you look at good commentators, you look at moments that would have been huge anyway and look at how they deal with it. They Think It's All Over, Agüeroooooo, even our own Wide to West are last minute moments of sporting brilliance enhanced by deceptively simple, honest and reflective commentary. I've frequently thought the other moment that probably should rival Wide to West in the SL era is the end of the 2020 GF. It really is our Agüero moment and watching it back in the cold light of day it doesn't have the same impact. Now to be fair a part of that is there being no crowd but I also think the commentary itself doesn't have a "wide to West" moment, and you can't manufacture that stuff
  11. Sure thing The Ten fixtures Callum has copied from RL on TV this week - and the last one will SHOCK you (Was actually checking to see if RL on TV got a credit this week as suggested on Twitter last week. I guess that was decided against)
  12. I see that this week the TV page on TRL has slightly changed the format for presenting fixtures, putting the kick off time at the end of the fixture and adding the words "kick off", not how it appears on the RL on TV website at all. I guess a different way can be found of presenting that information after all...!
  13. Most errors online are corrected when they are spotted. Sorry, to be clear, are you are saying there was an error at source then that both RL on TV and TRL failed to pick up that has then been corrected everywhere else except here? It's still on the TRL article tonight so not always hey. Perhaps you can try harder next time! And it's not a League Express article, it's a Totalrl.com article. Sorry to point out your mistake. Perhaps you can try harder next time. And on your latter point, there are not many potential alternative formats for fixtures, times and stations, so if you invent a good format someone is likely to copy you. Good to see some credit RL on TV's great work. I profusely apologise for confusing your brands, you see I saw it being tweeted from the League Express Twitter account. How on earth could anyone get confused over that...! And in a thread with League Express in the title too. All the clues were there. You with LPL are a bit like me with Scotch Whisky. The difference is that I don't go online or onto forums to criticise Scotch Whisky, its producers or its consumers, particularly while using facilities that Scotch Whisky is actually paying for. A great analogy. The only tiny way in which I could improve it, it would be if I'd really liked Scotch Whisky, was actually really fond of it and bought hundreds if not thousands of pounds of it's products over two and a half decades, and had maybe even used their forum facilities over that time to make thousands of posts in good faith discussions with fellow like minded individuals and - if I can say so - had a (small) reputation for being a reasonable and fair minded poster. Then one day, they've changed the recipe of the whiskey and I just stop buying it and leave the website no fuss. Then over the past few months I see on social media they see other people concerned about the reputation of the company after some interesting feed back on the Whisky Twitter today from people running the account to then use the forums again to see what the response to this was having been emotionally invested in the brand before even if I wasn't physically buying the product any more. Listen I get it, I've come on here to not only say this isn't a good look but I don't buy your products any more, I'm not expecting a ticker tape parade, but even if you don't agree with me, I'd hope you'd understand why some people might think the optics of incidents like this are poor, as have IMO, some of the LPL replies on Twitter today. For the record my issue isn't with the clickbait reputation (although for the record - surprise I'm not a fan), it's more that it's the reputation that a couple of articles on your site are being accused of being copied wholesale from other sources without credit. You've been on here and defended the incidents in question. You know the truth, not us. I guess not much more to it but it doesn't look great to me but it's not my company as you've been particularly keen to make very clear. Happy to pay the server costs for my posts if it's the issue. Hear the website is doing pretty well though...! I guess in the analogy, I'd never changed the master distillers mind with any of my feedback in the past, what did I expect now. That's on me! Plenty of people like it - good for you. As sure as people are struggling to not like that I hope you are at peace with the fact that there are plenty who aren't. I'm sure you'll say you are!
  14. Perhaps I'm wrong but I can't find this error anywhere else. Ultimately Sky would be responsible for their own listings and it isn't on there, nor can I see it on the Radio Times or Tv Guide.co.uk website. If you take a look on the RLonTv Twitter feed you'd hopefully see it was a specifically curated hub of information freely available elsewhere. Mistakes can be made on there, sometimes it's human error, sometimes it's because broadcasters don't give two hoots about RL and the info is wrong. Looks like this specific error is human error fair enough. But cut and paste merchants that site is not - in my opinion. But even if it was an error at source that's one that should be more easily caught out by a professional journalist rather than missed twice you'd think. Like I say calling it an unfortunate coincidence is giving the extreme benefit of the doubt especially as RLonTV was maybe the only place where you got a rundown of every fixture available in the UK until recently even with radio comms. Funny how the League Express article copies the formatting of fixtures, times, stations etc. Again maybe an unfortunate coincidence Look yes it's small fry at the end of the day and not the biggest thing in the world but it's worth highlighting that - it seems to me - that the LE/TRL is starting to get a bad reputation for this sort of stuff and it's sad. If Martyn doesn't see it as that big an issue that's fine - he often says if you don't like it, don't read it and to be honest in the past couple of years I don't read any LPL output save for the very occasional article on TRL - maybe once per month.
