  1. Also on the match thread, to save you looking up Youtube
  2. And going further back (early 1980s) one from John Vodden, interception about 10 yards from his own goal line, charging up hill to score. It might have been against Dewsbury (but that might be just wishful thinking).
  3. Ditto - family commitment kept us away. It looks like it was a cracker. Hopefully we'll get some highlights posted!
  4. I give it five years, tops, before it all changes again...
  5. C'mon, Roger, chin up. You're making Phildog look positively cheerful in comparison. (Sorry, PD!)
  6. Archie Bruce: Batley player, 20, had 'toxic' level of painkiller, inquest told - BBC News It seems some lessons have been learnt. I hope so, anyway, and this isn't just a box-ticking exercise
  7. Lord Peter would certainly agree...
  8. Yes, I agree, to a point. But once the quiet word has been spoken, surely the referee needs to blow his whistle when the offence is repeated. And again for each repetition? Otherwise he's being inconsistent. But I'll stop now, lest I be accused of pedantry.
  9. YES, Coolie, but the attendance was actually 90125
  10. Pots and kettles spring to mind, BSJ. But what do you expect a referee to do, when he sees an infringement? ignore it, or penalise it? And if the infringement is repeated? And should he turn a blind eye after the twentieth repetition, or maintain consistency? Who'd be a ref, eh?
  11. But it wasn't the referee's fault the players failed to follow the rules (or are they Laws? - I forget). The saddest aspect of the game was the players' ability to learn. Once the referee has penalised a team for an incorrect PTB, or not standing square half a dozen times, surely players ought to realise what's going to happen if they do it again! And I'm glad the referee was consistent in continuing to penalise these infringements throughout the game.
