Catalans Big Day

Recommended Posts

Two months away. First weekend of July against Wigan at Brutus. Huge celebrations anticipated. Dragons using cherry & whites visit to specially mark their 10th anniversary. On the evening of the game a special event down-town where the clubs All Star 2006-15 selection will be announced. Former greats returning - Greenshields, Murphy,Wilson, Chan, Carlaw, Croker and Chris Beattie all confirmed . Should be some day.

"It involves matters much greater than drafting the new rules...the original and existing games have their own powerful appeal to their players and public and have the sentiments which history inspires"  - Harold 'Jersey' Flegg 1933

Suppose they could have taken this to the bigger Aime Giral Stadium. That is where the first fixture was IIRC?

Hope the result is the same too! Well no, actually I hope it's a much bigger margin this time around!

Sometimes I wonder whether we are everyone's second favourite team...

Not a go at the Warriors in any way just favouring Catalan!

I know. I was joking. It'll be a great event even if the home team loses!

I guessed but didn't want you to get the wrong end of the stick because I hadn't explained.

And what a shame PSG are not here to share in all this with us and having one of their own! :sorry: Maybe next time?

I agree! But what about letting Toulouse and Cathars in?

They need to have Stacey Jones and Adam Mogg and Steve Menzies if it is to be a really profound celebration. Pity that Greg Bird will have other obligations to the Gold Coast Titans.

Only if they can make it?

Hope some French players will also be in that group of Catalan greats.

Hope the day is a great success!

Here is my back-of-envelope all-time Catalans 17. I'm sure I would come up with a different view with longer to think about it, but see what you think for starters. I've tried to get a mix of great players who were only there for a short time with lads who put in several years' good service.

1. Clint Greenshields

2. Damien Blanch

3. Vincent Duport

4. Adam Mogg

5. Justin Murphy

6. Thomas Bosc

7. Stacey Jones

8. David Ferriol

9. Eloi Pellissier

10. Remi Casty

11. Dallas Johnson

12. Steve Menzies

13. Gregory Mounis

14. Jamal Fakir

15. Jerome Guisset

16. Zeb Taia

17. Julien Rinaldi

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I'd have had Jason Croker in there somewhere, hard as nails played against him as a junior when he played for Crookwell green devils.

Who's Renaud Guigue?? I can't remember him.

Originating from Provence played in their first season after being being part of UTC. Just 18 games before being replaced by Greenshields the following season. Today doing a decent job coaching up at Avignon.
