This country's wealth was created by men in overalls, it was destroyed by men in suits.

I remember fundraisers trying to raise the cash for this a few years ago. Did they manage to find a big donor or sponsorship or was it the good lady crowd funding who paid for it all?

He will be as proud as punch to see it. Legend.

In front of the concrete bunker known as The Civic Centre or along side The John Bull if you know that.

Thanks, Padge.  At the first ever RL match I attended, Billy scored the first try, against Featherstone Rovers in late January, 1964.  Wigan won 15-4 (3T and 3G to 2G)  By coincidence, Robert Gate's biography of Billy contains a photo from that match.

RL has yet to have a knighthood and I think it would be fitting if our first and probably only knight was Billy Boston

Great call.

Great call.

I agree, Padge.  Great call!  However, it needs somebody to set this in motion.

Anybody can suggest somebody for an honour (see www.gov.uk/honours), but you cannot ask for a specific level of honour.  Having said that, by definition if you ask for somebody who already has an honour to have another one, it must be from a higher class.  I see no reason why one couldn't say that you think a particular person now merits a knighthood.

Incidentally, a knighthood is "awarded for having a major contribution in any activity, usually at national level.  Other people working in the nominee's area will see their contribution as inspirational and significant..."  On that basis, Billy more than 'qualifies', I would have thought.

So who is going to start it off?
