  1. York - Nice stadium, no real other sport to compete with, large student population & attractive for a weekend break for away fans
  2. Hopefully a magazine type show to follow now that we have TV standard cameras at all games. No excuse for the SL show to be regionalized on the BBC going forward.
  3. That was my thinking exactly. Several former players from the club are with St. Helens (Lewis Dodd, Mark Percival, Ben Davies, Jake Burns, Dan Hill, George Delaney), Wigan (Harry Smith, Brad O'Neill), Leeds (Jarrod O'Connor, Sam Walters), Castleford (Danny Richardson) amongst others. But other lads could surely be picked up by Widnes that are not picked up by S/L clubs?
  4. Nobody is asking them for money. In fact the set-up at the Hornets and West Bank Bears is superior to the pro club with active volunteers ensuring all players, coaches & supporters are taken care of. What would it cost for a couple of players to head to a training session for the kids once in a while? Not every week but every so often? Build a rapport with active Rugby fans in the town to encourage more people to attend the Widnes matches?
  5. Several times to the point it has become fruitless. We receive more interaction from St.Helens and Warrington
  6. What are other peoples experiences, who are involved in the amateur game, with your local Professional team? My experience with the Widnes club is very poor. We are the largest amateur club in Widnes and we have next to no contact from the Pro club. I would assume that we would be the prime market for them to tap into with over 300+ kids registered but not a peep from them. For example, do Hunslet RLFC work with Hunslet ARLFC? Rochdale Hornets with Rochdale Mayfield? Cas Tigers with Lock Lane?
  7. Great news. Is this self funded or have you secured sponsorship for the tour? I took a UK team to Czechia back in 2011 so i understand the logistics involved
  8. I don't see what a Scotland team full of English lads v a Ireland Team full of English lads played at Workington in front of 1000 people on a Saturday evening is achieving though? I was once a believer of spreading the game to other countries throughout the UK but the older I get, the more I believe that it is just throwing money away. We should have an annual 4 nations between GB / NZ / Aus & one of the PI countries on rotation. Switch annually between GB and Aus / NZ as hosts. Blue Chip sponsor, terrestrial TV coverage, double headers: Coca Cola 4 Nations WEEK 1 DW Stadium, Wigan GB V NZ AUS V Tonga WEEK 2 KC Stadium, Hull GB V Tonga AUS V NZ Week 3 Olympic Stadium, London GB v AUS NZ V Tonga Final Etihad Stadium, Manchester Position 1 v Position 2 GB play France in France during the summer, not at Leigh or Warrington The other European teams (including IRE / SCO/ WAL) compete with countries at their level in the same way that cricket has 2nd tier nations. This would make for more competitive fixtures.
  9. Any news on potential replacements? “Radford to Bradford”?
  10. Can they not train in Ealing and play at Wimbledon on March days? Similar to the Crusaders training in the NW region and I assume Midlands /Cornwall do something similar?
  11. Just listened to Episode 147 (part 2) of the Socially Distance Sports Bar (available from all good podcast providers) and they are reviewing the documentary 'Codebreaker' from 1992 which covers Jonathan Davies move from Welsh RU to Widnes. Only 1/2 hour but a good listen nonetheless. Made me nostalgic for better times for my club which we are unlikely to see again.
