If he's willing to put his state of origin place on the line to represent England than I have no issue with his heritage. If he's not good enough then he won't get in anyway so not sure what people are moaning about.

The issue for me is nation swapping not the heritage rule

The increasingly frequent appearance of these types of articles is worrying.  I'm not necessarily against having Aussie born England players but I'd much prefer it if they made this decision as they break into the first grade, suggesting that it was a long held ambition, not just when they see their Kangaroo prospects decline and just want to play international rep rugby.

If the NRL contingent plus NRL heritage players win the world cup, will you be upset then

If they win the 4n's will you be upset then because its on home soil

Bennett will bed in a half back from the NRL this year and trial the rest of the England squad he doesn't know from SL, then next year its survival of the fittest and if he sees a better NRL option he will take it

If he wins the world cup will anyone even care - it will still be at least 75% English born and bred if not more, possibly three NRL heritage players that's it - works for me

If it was a team of NRL heritage players there would be a major issue with the game here but at the moment that's not being suggested - at least I don't think it has been!

I think I would be upset if no English born players won the World Cup.  How many of them would be playing against France the following October?  Actually I wouldn't care, as I probably wouldn't go along to watch.

I reckon that there has been at least 5 (Aussie born) NRLers since Bennett took over as having been rumoured to be selected for England.  If they were all selected alongside a recall for Heighington, Reed and Roger Chase (I know, virtually impossible) then there is more than half your team.

Having said that, it is not about whether they want to represent England because they want to represent England or because they want to play international rugby.

Jack Reed was born in England. Chase and Heighington have no chance of being selected

I don't have any problem with Jack Reed playing for England.  He (as far as I am aware) committed to England early on in his career.

They may not do, but my point still stands that a sizeable proportion (theoretically) of the team could never have seen England and have no allegiance to the country yet want to play just because they won't be selected for Australia.

Would be good to see a trial game between SL England and NRL England to see if these "I'll put my hand up" types are that committed to the cause.

I like the sound of that it could become our origin. I certainly think there would be a bit of feeling in the game as SL players try to prove a point.

Not for me I 'm afraid. From what I've read it sounds like other options are diminishing so he'll have a go for England. I really hope Bennett isn't allowed to go too far down the heritage rule. English players please or at the least a heritage player who openly states his commitment and that his preference is England over any other team.

He will get in as the arrogant aussie coach will pick him as he has NRL experience....

Roby refused a place in the NRL so apparently he isn't international class....

The whole things a joke but it's frowned upon to not be an England supporter.

Does anyone care when the English Cricket and Rugby Union teams are full of foreigners? Does anyone in Portugal care that 1/3 of their national football team are not from Portugal? Does anyone care that Chris Froome isn't really British?

No, as long as they win, that's all that matters.

In those sports it's one nation for life, you have to fully commit to the country and you play all the internationals not just the big tournsments. So there is a difference.

I think that some people do.  I think Chris Froome is a great example.  I certainly support him less than Adam Yates.  I also support him less than Bradley Wiggins, who was born in Belgium.  Froome represented Kenya at the start of his career, with accusations (that I don't agree with) that he only changed the country he represented due to increased access to funding.  Bradley Wiggins is most definitely very culturally "British" (no doubt opened a can of worms with that comment).  I also suspect that Chris Froome is vastly more culturally "British" than Brett and Josh Morris, Dave Taylor, Blake Austin, Adam Cuthbertson, Trent Hodkinson, Chris McQueen.

Did any England fans care when the likes of Pieterson and Geraint Jones won the Ashes for England in 2005? As well as Strauss, that's more than a quarter of the team? Did anyone care when Jonathan Trott then played?

England Union have a long list of non English players, particularly in recent times, do they care?

It seems only in our insular sport

Nation swapping, not heritage is the real issue
