Yesterday's game should not have gone ahead. The pitch was in a shocking state caused by the Workington game, which should not have gone ahead. Too much short sightedness from certain quarters at the club. The pitch will be even more wrecked now. Oh dear.

How did we manage with the pitch for all those years of 'Winter' Rugby?

Surely it was worse then.

Half the season would have been 'unplayable' so far this winter.

Any groundsmen in those days must have been pulling their hair out!

We do an option now with Summer rugby and that is to pre season train elsewhere

and save the pitch for the main season and a couple of home friendlies.

The answer, I know is always the same unfortunately. Money,Money Money!

If the Town game had been a league match it would have been postponed and rearranged but because it was a friendly which can't really be rearranged, it was foolishly played. Walking into the ground yesterday for the Oldham game I couldn't believe how bad the pitch looked. Never ever seen it that bad in decades. Yesterday's game then made it even worse. So a match played in front of less than 700 fans was played, thus putting a match played in front of possibly 1500-2000 in serious doubt. Madness.

A match of which the club will make "NO" Money apart from bar and food sales.

Can I just make this clear and put all rumours to bed...

If a game is sanctioned by the RFL then the only time it can be postponed/cancelled is by the RFL after the inspection of the pitch. This is carried out by a nominated/qualified RFL representative. A club cannot just cancel or postpone a game at will without siting extraordinary circumstances that are accepted by the RFL. Cancelling one game to allow another to go ahead is not an extraordinary circumstance.

All friendlies are sanctioned by the RFL and are therefore subject to RFL regulations. In layman's terms once the game is agreed only the RFL can alter the fixture.

The ground will survive and each game is played on a game by game inspection, if the pitch is deemed playable by the officials the game goes ahead as it was with the all golds last season.

The ground is not in a state however it does has a few bare patches , as does any pitch that's played on this time of year. It will repair and it will be looked after to the best of the clubs ability to allow Barrow Raiders to play our exciting and open rugby. Let's get behind the club and support it rather than look on the black side of something that is out of our control once a game is sanctioned.

Onwards and upwards.

The Evening Mail has it that WARRINGTON will inspect the pitch and THEY will decide if the game goes ahead.

As it is only a preseason warm up (for them) you can see their reasoning.

They will be present at the inspection and can raise any concerns they wish as is their prerogative as is ours. The decision to play is that of the RFL as in the last three games.

Let's see what happens tomorrow.
