Making the Most of it?

First of all, Congratulations to all at the club on the remarkable achievement of finishing third in the league and securing a place in the "Middle Eights" and a chance to test ourselves against the likes of the Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR.

It's been a wonderful effort by all concerned and it's been a pleasure to watch the team this season.

Now, I don't want to put a downer on things and I know we run a tight ship etc. etc.

But now is where the hard work begins...... Off the field.

After the failure to capitalise on our Grand Final appearance in 2013 we have a real opportunity to progress the club and get some real momentum going. I do hope that the club does all it can to maximise exposure and revenue over the next 2 months.

Ticket Prices: I notice both Featherstone and Leigh are increasing ticket prices for the Super 8s. Will we be doing the same.

Hull KR are offering 3 game packages. I feel this would be a good Idea for those without season tickets. This would allow us to maximise income from away supporters and allow any returning/new Batley supporters to save by attending all 3 home games. (Offer Bradford season ticket holders cheap entry...I'm sure it would make the papers).

The fixtures haven't fallen as good as they could have and ironically a 4th placed finish would have yielded better home games, (from a commercial point of view) but we must step up a gear and get as many people up to t'mount as possible.

Sell shirts cheaper, people will buy them for 7 games if they're reduced.

Produce Middle 8 Tee Shirts??

Get posters/fixtures in every shop in town.

Entertainment at the ground. The live bands always seem to keep people back after the game making money at the bar.

I hope I don't come across as negative, I just don't want the club to be looking back at this as a missed opportunity come October.

I know we have 2 away games first up so we have a little longer to sort things out and hopefully the club are already on it.

Well said Deputy Dog, yes get the Batley Bulls supporters attending the Batley Bulldogs games do a cheap entry for all Championship teams but leave the SL ones at the correct prices as that equates to a discount on their normal entry prices.

Cheers Roger.

Very good ideas Deputy except 1 my friend, i definatly would not give cheaper tickets to Bradford Bulls at all, After all they have been charging super league prices at there ground ever since they have been in the championship, £22 for a standard ticket + £6 for parking is ludicrous tbh, so as i agree with most of your good points i do not see why we should let the Bulls in cheaper when they have ripped supporters off for so long, imo of course

Well said billy bulldog!

I think do ticket £50 for three games would work or something among those line for fans who don't have ST if they count?

Also i think changing a fev fixture to saturday evening wouldn't hurt we had more for the cup game with fev than the league get the kids playing before and a band on i'm sure we'd get 2k there!! Plus gives the players sunday with their family

The Bradford Bulls administration are responsible for their pricing structure and ripping off away supporters, not their fans. Who knows, on a longer term basis we might even win a few new fans who are currently very disillusioned with their club, imo of course.

What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

well it should of been there fans and season ticket holders to have a stand and complain about charges, not for us to help them by reducing our prices for them, when obvilusly they couldnt help themselves, imo of course

I'm not sure a saving of £1 is a great offer Tom. I'd say £40 for all 3 home games. Unless of course we were planning on charging £20 a game. Our first home game against Huddersfield coincides with the pink weekend so the ducking stool etc will be up at the ground.

Talking about making the most of it, i reckon we need to target wins against all of the other championship clubs. We have guaranteed £400k+ but realistically 3 wins could put us in the million pound game depending how other results go. Yes, it sounds pie in the sky, but why not, we have beaten all 3 teams once this season. If we beat them again, we could pick up £700k rather than £400k. That is the real flaw/unfairness in the middle 8s. Leigh were the best team in the league last year, as they have been again this year but they only picked up 8th place in the playoffs and lowest funding last year. If any of the teams have injuries or a couple of off days, then it can really hurt them financially. We have no expectations on us to get results and most fans and the majority of the rugby fraternity is expecting us to lose the next 7 games, so we can play with gay abandon (no pun intended Keegan) and without any pressure. I reckon this really is our big chance to turn something very good into something truly unbelievable and really set us up for the future. London have probably funded the Soward signing at least in part, using this principle, Leigh have probably signed there current ruck of new players based on this too, after getting burned last year. Now is not the time to sit back and reflect on a great season, now is the time to really kick on, think big for a change, we are not little Batley, we are in the mix with the big boys because we have earned the right where it matters, on the field, this is our chance, reach for the stars boys!!!

I would expect all of the Championship clubs to have realised this as they approached qualification for the middle eights. Realistically the only chance any of them have of gaining promotion is via the Million Pound Game, and this should be their target. Instead of knocking themselves up in trying to overcome the stronger SL teams they will select their sides astutely and focus all of their efforts on beating their fellow Championship opponents.

It should all be very interesting.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.
