Challenge Cup Final

Correct me if I`m wrong as I missed the end of the game and the subsequent handing over of the trophy, but I take it there were no royals in attendance at the game. The pre game introductions were carried out by some lady politician, the escapes me,so I assume she handed over the trophy too? Bloody disgrace that some royal or another couldn`t be arsed going along, but maybe they`re all on holiday at the moment, not that they`re hardly ever not on holiday somewhere. Just shows what they think of the plebs north of Watford, but bet there`ll be a few royals at the ra ra World Cup final whenever that will be.

Only saw bits of the game, what I did see was loads of empty seats. Anyone know if the new Wembley has more seats than the old Wembley ?

Went to a couple of finals with the Printers Arms. ( two good weekend trips ) And a couple of trips with Ellen Smiths

Think they were all sell outs.

The result didn't do any thing for RL such a one sided game.

Yes DD when it comes to Yawnion there will be lots of shots of Prince Harry cheering the boys on.

A large VAT Dave please.

Just a point. Before you start throwing rocks at the RFL and others not sitting in the empty seats ( including the Royal Box), how many Rochdale fans were there?

23 Crusaders supporters in our party plus half a dozen others who went on other trips, there was a big group from Barrow and I saw one or two Championship and League 1 clubs there but I didn't see anyone in a Rochdale Hornets shirt.   One of our fans describes the Challenge Cup as "our Glastonbury" - if fans can't be bothered supporting it, why expect anyone else to?

Oh - the "lady politician" was the sports minister - there to represent the government. I expect.

New Wembley holds 20,000 less than old wembley in its heydey.  I think 1970 cup final was watched by 100,000, but although the crowds are less the revenue will be up and it is all those suits care about.

Gogledd, I hope you all thought it was money well spent - my finals watching included some real humdingers in the 1970s and 80s before the suits took over RL.  I have been to several finals at the new wembley.

I do not enjoy 50 point maulings whichever side of the mauling my team is on - and to think this is the one game of the year that is televised live by the BBC - what an advert - I expect most folks outside of Leeds (and many inside) turned off at half time.

The Challenge cup final attendance was a midges under 81,000.  It'll be the biggest RL attendance in the Northern Hemisphere this year. The empty seats by half way are the 'club wembley' seats that are always empty.

The crowd was bigger than the crowds at Origins 1 and 3 this year - and a couple of thousand short of the The 2014 NRL Grand Final crowd of 83,833 which was the largest attendance at a sporting event at 'Stadium Australia' since its 2001 reconfiguration.

So not all that bad, then...

Yeah,I understand the fact that the game ended up farcically with the one sided result and the fact that there were a few empty seats. My beef is with the royals who always managed to send someone along,no matter how far down the succession line they are. I`m sure the sycophantic mob at GHQ would`ve sent along invitations,so why the no show? That`s all.

I didn't realize you had to wear a Hornets shirt for the CC final, perhaps they were wearing St Helens or Wigan shirts. Or even Leeds shirts.

Hornets suffer the same as Rochdale football, being in a big catchment area it is easy to get to super league grounds. A lot of people in Rochdale would sooner follow a so called big team than there own home town team. Of course it is entirely up to them who they support but both clubs suffer for it.

DD I watched the women's hockey euro final from Lee Valley ( and what a good game it was England 2-0 down with 8 minutes to go, ended 2-2 and England won the shoot out) Even they had a Royal watcher Somebody called the Countess of Wessex. Married to someone called Prince Edward

( I think)

Here we go AGAIN gogledd, with your ' my dads bigger than your dad ' syndrome. Bowt time you changed the record, pla

Have never brought my dads size into a Total RL forum. As it happens he was a fantastic fella who died too early due to the ravages of lung cancer which spread to his spine and eventually on to his brain. He was resolute and brave in the face of his certain death, pal

My comment was based on the old proverb "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" and I'll stick by it - don't criticise others for not turning up to one of our sports major events if your not prepared to support it yourself.

Anita - I'd agree it probably wasn't the greatest game to see live (or on the telly) but I was still in a good mood after Crusaders win at Skolars/ Friday Night Lights is always great fun - even when Crusaders are not playing - and worth making a weekend of it. I dont support Hull KR or Leeds but thoroughly enjoyed the weekend - thanks for asking

I`ve no time at all for the Royals, but it`s a traditional thing, like singing Abide With Me,more than ably done this year by the lady who`s Hubby died playing for Keighley not long ago and it always brings a tear or two to my eye.Wonder what would`ve happened if they hadn`t sung the National Anthem dirge, but maybe that`s a forerunner to next year;no Royals,no Anthem.

Good on you for going to the Final on Saturday Gogledd, but you were in the Big Smoke anyway as your mob were playing the Scholars on Friday night,so you obviously made a weekend out of it as I would. Bet you wouldn`t have gone otherwise!

Wrong!  I went last year for Skolars v Hunslet AND to the CC final - as did another 14 Cru fans in our party and another 6 or so with a Hattons trip.

We are already planning next years trip and will do the Friday Night Lights and CC Final again - North Wales Crusaders probably wont be at one or either of the games!

Lizzy Jones singing 'Abide With Me' was worth the ticket price whatever the game was like.

I'll stand up when others sing 'God Save the Queen' out of respect to others ... but will never sing it.

What a bizarre thread. "We took more fans to a game that didn't involve either of our two sides".

Perhaps next year, Ray French can do a register before the game and a trophy can be presented to the neutral side with the most fans rather than the winning team.

Interfering bloke who supports Dale.
