Ed Miliband

Recommended Posts

Although I'm very unlikely to vote any more, I would prefer Labour to get in over the Tories. Unfortunately, it seems fairly obvious to me that Ed Milliband aint gonna get elected. Would Labour not be well advised to get rid sooner rather than later?

I think Labour will win the next election despite Ed.

(dependant on the economy, tory infighting and the coalitions inability to do any policy with out messing it up)

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

As much as I would prefer Labour to win, I don't think they can with Ed. I don't think Ed has or is likely to be able to project himself as a credible PM. As much as I hate style over substance, Ed Milliband is not going to persuade the floating voter to vote for him. Labour should be murdering both the Tories and Lib Dems in polls and elections, but they're not.

TBF people thought that about Cameron and he got in with a bit of help from the Lib Dems.

At the moment I reckon Labour are getting a pretty raw deal from the media. Especially the BBC.  Anyone who heard Martha Kearney's interview with the three party leaders must surely come to the same conclusion.  Last Monday Milliband, announced as the "Leader of the Labour Party" - not "The Leader of the Opposition" was given a really hard time by Kearney, with interuptions, not allowing him to finish sentences and talking over him.  Cameron (The Prime Minister) was allowed to smoothly put his points, avoid awkward questions and attack Labour.  I didn't hear the interview with Clegg but did hear him described as "Deputy Prime Minister"

Overall there seems to be a general attempt to belittle Milliband - similar to the tactics used upon Kinnock.  I also heard a Today interview with Harriet Harman and the hectoring interupting was similar to that used on Milliband.

I've also noticed on the World at One on the occasional Wednesday when Cameron deigns to answer questions that if he has a success over Milliband Kearney is quick to point this out - however if the boot is on  the other foot Milliband's victory is ignored.  The Beeb these days appears to have a definite pro Tory tone. But then it's run by an ex Tory minister so what can you expect?

“Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.”

Clement Attlee.

According to the opinion polls Miliband is not popular (I think he might even be seen as being less effective than Cameron), and Labour are not where they should be at this stage of the electoral cycle and with a struggling government. That said who is going to win? Are the Conservatives really going to do as well as they did in 2010 with their record, them tearing themselves apart over Europe and issues like gay marriage, and the right wing vote being split by UKIP? The Lib Dems after they have alienated a lot of their previous support?

Labour could end up as the largest party by default and, therefore, in power.

We could easily end up with a situation where the winning party polls around 30% on a 60% turnout - and gets something close to a majority thanks to FPTP.

How many times is canetman going to use the phrase 'champagne socialist'. Is it this seasons 'guardianista'? Why do the right love to band around these petty little phrases?

You should read the Ukip thread.  We've covered it all there.  Including Canetman's proposals to legalise penis extensions, brothels and steam trains.

As soon as someone uses a pejorative term, the words 'so called', 'right on' to describe liberal attitudes and, when talking to them in person, air quotes they've lost any respect I had for their argument. ;)

Other than being a union-loving, cheddar-chasing, Maths lecturer?

How many times have you got?

As well as being trite don't you think the term champagne socialist is a cheap shot?

I'm with canetman on a hell of a lot of stuff especially duty free beer, compulsory rugby league in schools(although I think it should be all schools) and his proposals for public transport, albeit with my own tweaks especially concerning the contribution of Edward Thompson: but believe him to be better than to use the term in question. Nobody's perfect

ED MILLIBAND is a complete and utter idiot of the first order how an earth the labour party ended up with this champagne socialist professional politician god only knows (His brother is no better:)

Harold Wilson must be turning in his grave.

Ed Milliband has no chance of winning the next election nor has any other current member of the opposition including Ed Balls Up (Economic guru NOT:)

One thing i will say though is he must be loved by the japanese flat screen TV industry as everytime he appears on the box one feels like kicking the screen in:))

It says something about modern day politics that someone as useless as Ed Milliband could even be considered as a future PM of our once great country.

Uncle Nigel is going to murder them ALL :))))

CM

I've had first hand dealings with Ed Miliband and he has delivered locally, he seemed switched on and well aware of what was going on in his own constituency be it in the posh end or council estates.

That's flaws in their argument, not about belittling a person or group of people.

Sorry Sevvy, but the Welsh have been belittling the English, and particularly Londoners, for generations. It's our default position.

Of course, when we get some back it's downright racial prejudice.
