  1. Going massively off topic but wealth and disposable income are very different things. Most over 65's wealth is tied up in property that has appreciated in value over the years but they are unlikely to liquidise this asset - rather it will pass to their children. Income flow for many, but not all, is reasonable but rapidly diminishing.
  2. Then we should just stop playing RL. Not one single club is self-sufficient under your criteria.
  3. Dewsbury have been charging full price for the last two years and also offering free entry to U18's for that same period. There has been no real discernible impact upon the gates nor the demographics of attendance. To attract youngsters we need to make RL attractive - leaving the heavy lifting to individual clubs is futile if the fundamental attraction of the sport isn't first established. This is one of IMG's priorities but it won't be achieved in a couple of months; it's a long process.
  4. It could be three down and two up if you read the detail.
  5. No agreements made between clubs, just reality dawning. Batley offered their £10 in last season and it cost them a fair chunk of money. Dewsbury stopped offering these concessions two years ago without any discernible effect on the gates.
  6. This adds a little spice to proceedings: Betfred Championship and League One restructure, 2024-26 (rugby-league.com)
  7. Why not change the name to Hurricanes then, omitting the Midlands bit?
  8. Mainly because the majority of the crowds qualify for concessions. It isn't called "the old man's league" for nothing (with apologies to the women).
  9. So, having seen some of the Championship teams in action on TV and judging by results and recruitment, how will the table pan out this season? Promotion by winning the Final won't be on offer this year but pride will drive some teams on. Relegation still hasn't finally been clarified but it looks like the status quo will apply with any changes taking place following the 2025 season so we should assume that the bottom two will go down. DR or loans might play a part again this year but with increased time our for HIA cases SL clubs will be wanting plenty of back up so maybe not so many players will be available as some clubs hope. I will stick my neck out and predict: 1. Wakefield 2. Toulouse 3. Bradford 4. Featherstone 5. Sheffield 6. Halifax 7. Batley 8. York 9. Barrow 10. Widnes 11. Swinton 12. Doncaster 13. Dewsbury 14. Whitehaven
  10. Halifax are claiming to have an injury crisis with only 20 players available and hoping for DR reinforcements. Add to that a decidedly soft ground, which might be a bit of a leveller, and we could do better than we fear. There has been talk of players from Huddersfield but I can't see any being fitted in at short notice so Sykes and Dixon will be missed. Will others step up into their shoes? Dewsbury 10 - 26 Halifax FTS Whiteley Att: 1125
  11. Decent draw. Given the lack of fixtures that weekend it might even attract some floating fans. Hope you get a decent gate.
