Summer Bash

can't argue that Batley in particular deserve their top billing for the Heavy Woollen Derby, but Sunday might be fairly scarce on numbers in the ground.

Weve been on last twice on the Sunday and been terrible both times

Think we deserve this "graveyard" fixture with little to no atmosphere or away supporters this year

can't argue with that.

Suppose some could consider ourselves to be hard done with considering it's the third year running we'll have faced a team that finished higher than us, but I guess iBatley are always going to play Dewsbury, and with Bradford v Hull KR being a logical & attractive fixture, London's previous SB opponents Sheffield languishing at the foot of the table this year, and Toulouse v London looking unattractive for obvious reasons, we were the only appropriate opponents for London.

This is now the third year that we have been paired with a team who finished higher than us in the previous season (and who has been expected to beat us). Irrespective of how bad we were last year how can that be fair ? To rub salt into the wounds we have 'drawn' the team who will bring the fewest supporters. Meanwhile, how far off the pace will Dewsbury need to be before they are no longer considered suitable opponents for Batley (Let's not forget how last years Summer Bash results impacted on the 3rd and 4th placings). The whole concept is flawed now that league placings are more crucial than ever before.

Got to agree with all that. So much riding on league placings and there's a random extra fixture thrown in to unbalance it all.

After all its about how many supporters you bring - comedy gold ! Enjoy your trip up and down in the day, not an option for a London fan, regardless how many.

I go to Wembley for the day along with many others

Bradford and Hull KR should never have been relegated because they are well supported is all you read on the general forum. Not an option for a Fev fan we were thrown out for you and Paris

Is there a reason why Dewsbury play Batley at the Bash every year? IMO Batley really should have been given a tough fixture this year against any of the other top 4 or Hull Kr due to how well they did last year. I shouldnt complain though as we have a very winnable game although it will be played out in front of about a thousand fans and then that last game is going to look awful on TV. It would be a good concept if done right and as has been mentioned there is no reason why they cant pick the fixtures a couple of weeks before going on the league table.

Bloody hell the season asn't started yet and everyone saying we don't deserve to be on the same field as the so called top sides. So come on then who do you think we should have been paired with?

I think you're missing the point Graham.

The Rovers way has always been "Bring them on, who's next?". We will play and can easily beat London at Blackpool the same as we hammered them at their own gaff this season.

But these fixtures have a bearing on the league table and the extra game easy or difficult could be crucial come July.

I don't think anyone's having a pop at Dewsbury, more that the method of reaching the pairings seems to be inconsistent.

There is clearly a degree of trying to match the supposedly stronger teams with each other and the supposedly weaker teams likewise....for instance geographically Swinton is as close if not closer to Leigh than say Oldham or Rochdale but Leigh v Swinton was never likely to be a Summer Bash fixture. Likewise, a couple of years ago the potential "local derby" between Doncaster & Sheffield was presumably not considered because Hunslet were considered a more "equal" opponent than Sheffield for Doncaster.

It doesn't bother me particularly - there are so many variables that have an affect on the season, such as whether you play a team when it's in for or out of form, whether a team is hit with injuries when you play them, whether they have quality DR players available or not, whether they have just come off a tough game etc - that I'm not sure the luck of the "draw" for the Summer Bash should be made too much of, but I can see where people are coming from.

That last point is exactly the problem. In my eyes(I know its before the season has started) both Fev and Bradford have been given a rough deal where as Batley have done very well. I also feel Fax have a good draw as well as we both could pick up extra points on Bradford and Fev given the difficulty of their draw which could be very crucial come the end of the season. Dewsbury can feel hard done by because if they end up in a relegation battle they can very easily moan about how hard their Bash fixture was.
