Been thinking of becoming a vegetarian myself, unless you can afford to buy quality meat from a farm shop (Farmer Copleys in Ponte for example) most of the stuff sold on super markets is tastless cr4p. I have also been told that it is much better for your body.

You can, if you avoid expensive cuts, still get decent meat at a decent price. But, like vegetarianism, it usually requires more time and technique to cook well, as opposed to fillet steak (you could probably train a chimpanzee to sear a fillet competently).

That oft-quoted theory about human beings evolving as herbivores always sounds somewhat iffy to me, though.

Still, while I don't intend to go full veggie, I am cutting down on the number of times I eat meat, and sometimes the amount in meals too. Part of this is health, part environmental concerns... but mainly because it is much easier to find vegetarian recipes that aren't quite as judgmentally puritan, samey and dull as in the past.

It is iffy. Humans are omnivorous just like many monkeys and apes including chimps and baboons. One of the secrets to our success is our ability not to have to rely on one type of food so that as a reason to go vegetarian is demonstrably nonsense. I don't know why people seemingly require pseudo scientific justification anyway just eat veg if you wish. Full stop!

I was being polite, really. Anyone can see we have incisor and canine teeth, as well as molars.

In a recent double blind experiment, meat from Lidl came out tops, beating that from farm shops. You are just anti-supermarket, pure and simple.

No, I actually find most of Aldi's (don't know about Lidl) food to be nicer than most branded stuff. Not againt the lager super markets (despite how they treat their staff) but their days are numbered. As soon as Aldi/Lidl start doing an online order and delivery service the big super markets are finished.

That also states that Waitrose adds £40,000 to your house value.

Basically, if a house has shops local to it, people will be more likely to want to live there than if it's inconvenient to go buy a loaf of bread.

Not sure what any of this has to do with anything, mind you

I work as an epos engineer for all the big chain stores, the amount aldi have invested recently suggests to me that they are heading for market leader. Co op and Morrison's both on there Booty's.

Well, we all know about the Co-op's recent troubles, but Morrison's are a pretty decent supermarket chain that may have just tried to expand South too fast.

The newer Aldis are much more inviting than the old school, depressing hell holes. As a company they know that evening a middle classes are watching their money and need to make what they spend on food court.

What ever you think of the Germans, they know how to build a business and grow a brand.

Morrisons last year employed a new CEO who failed at Tesco's. Deal with Morrisons at our work and the new CEO is making headway changes all the time he's a pain in the rear end

I 'm not clear why Mullally feels the need to prove anything. He should be free to eat what ever he likes.

Scott Durek The ultra marathon runner put this whole veggie/ athlete thing to bed 10 years ago.

He has won dozens of Ultra Marathons including winning the Badwater Ultramarathon for two consecutive years in a record time.

The Badwater Ultra is 135 miles long, climbing 8000 feet from the bottom of Death valley in 130 degree heat, 24 hours none stop.

He did it on a veggie diet but maybe he could have done it on a meat diet (although he does n't think so).

Nothing new here, nothing to see, move along.
