Aussie investors for Sheffield

Very interesting. Not sure why the Aussie investors haven't already invested in a UK club if they'd been looking for a while as i'm sure they'd be plenty of takers!

Interesting to see that all want to keep the Eagles full time too. I can't see a March 17 stadium start date happening though, unless the plan is merely to play there and build around it thereafter, as construction work for main stands and hotel would not be complete by then

My concern with the new stadium is that there is little shelter for the main seating along either sideline. It is all open to the elements. Not too smart.

And they haven't really future proofed it by blocking the two ends in, all in all looks pretty low quality. However, it's a home for them which is great and to be fair they are probably always going to be a top Champ / lower SL club with modest crowds.

I'm pleased for Sheffield that they seem to have the very real prospect of a great future

But it does seem kinda odd that there appear to be three potential investors for Sheffield but every time we (the Bulls) get into financial strife (is it three times now? I'm losing count...) there never seems to be anyone around!

It does seem that having a new stadium with the attendant potential for conferencing, and maybe a hotel, does make a club a heck of lot more attractive?

I was just thinking that. Surely Bradford have a bigger base, history and tremendous potential. Why can't they get the big money man?

Sheffield are looking for an investor to take over from the outgoing chairman. Bradford have been looking for an investor to clear their massive debts. There's a big difference.

Why would anybody want to invest in English club RL let alone a team that plays in the second tier? It definitely has to be for the love of the game and not about profit

See post#11 which suggests there could be a profit?

Don't see why Australians would "love" our second tier.

Conspiracy theory could be a base to use to scout our best talent for the NRL.

But until someone buys it there are no investors, people who talk about buying clubs and taking them to the stars far outnumber the ones that actually do.

They won't own this stadium you know, just be tenants, as always.

Sadly I think there is as much potential in Sheffield as there is in Salford for very similar reasons.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

No loans / overdrafts, a reasonably successful playing squad and a new stadium on offer all make Sheffield the type of club investors would consider.

Here's hoping whoever is successful has the resources and expertise to grow the club both on and off the field.

Dr Koukash wanted the entire site around the AJ Bell stadium to be developed so people visited the area not just the stadium.

Last night on the radio he explained that those who walk to rugby league stadia cannot do that at the AJ Bell stadium due to the location.

Sheffield Eagles will be back playing in the city and the whole area around the stadium will attract crowds.

A further 4.9 million pounds spent on the area reported today.

The report seems to hint at opportunities for private investors.

Every time I've been I've walked to the stadium along with lots of other people. What's the problem?

With regard to Salford I believe that the hardcore support of days of yore walked to The Willows from Weaste and surrounding areas.

Getting from those areas by public transport is not easy and the walk is too difficult for those no longer young/or sofa spuds.

I don't think you mean you walk from the East Midlands but park the car nearby, and then walk to the AJ Bell.

Please attend a game when Sheffield play at home next year. :onthequiet:

Why?

What crowds?

I don't want Sheffield to fold but they have consistently failed to generate any real interest in RL in Sheffield. It will take a lot more than a new (half-finished) stadium I'm afraid.

These development plans sound very much like that which already exists in Doncaster - very nice indeed but with minimal impact upon attendances at sporting venues.

We'll probably be able to gain a greater insight as to whether it is going to be a success or not by this time next year.

Sheffield Eagles have recorded their best attendances while at the Don Valley Stadium which is the site where the new stadium is to be constructed.

There is a level of optimism about the whole project and the way I feel at the moment I shall hold on very tightly to the coat tails of that, and not be swayed by your negative prescience.

At the moment it is all about what happens on the field.

   Every minute matters.

I have found a connection with an investment into Cronulla Sharks - a person now at a sports club in England - and a subsiduary of that investment company at an address in Sheffield.

   Interesting times...

Far greater minds than mine are working on the stadium project - I shall just be patient and see what the future holds.

lets face it sheffield is a soccer mad city . even winning at wembley didn t bring in the crowds . salford had a decent ground and fairly decent support at the willows , moving to the new ground has been a big mistake ........mr koukash and other investors would have had  far better luck going to areas where there is a strong rugby league tradition and where the supporters have been starved of top class rugby for years . places like oldham , swinton , rochdale , keighley , barrow , workington , and whitehaven , places where despite constant knock backs the potential is still there !

I was at the Sheffield v Oldham game on Friday night and from what I saw things are pretty bleak for the Eagles. It's basically an amateur set up. Crowd of around 540 (dubious) with no atmosphere at all. Worse still, no team spirit, players unhappy and hardly speaking to each other in the players area afterwards. Who is in charge? Seemed like Senior was running the show. From the moment I arrived it felt like a club seeing out its time before the inevitable not a full time club looking to expand. It would be a shame if the game lost the Eagles but it seems to me that they are fading away.
