  3. is that part of the reason why England haven't been particular good at cricket for an extended period?
  4. Apparently there is a preamble to laws of cricket describing the "spirt of cricket" Respect your captain, team-mates, opponents and the authority of the umpires. Play hard and play fair. Accept the umpire’s decision. Create a positive atmosphere by your own conduct, and encourage others to do likewise. Show self-discipline, even when things go against you. Congratulate the opposition on their successes, and enjoy those of your own team. https://www.lords.org/mcc/the-laws-of-cricket/preamble-to-the-laws-spirit-of-cricket
  5. I am certain that if the throw had missed and been misfielded there is no way that Johnny and Ben would have taken some runs because it wouldn't be in the spirit of the game
  6. yes - one positive in these countries being close by is that playing cross-border leagues makes it easier to start the game in smaller countries with a few teams and play at suitable levels rather than having to wait for enough local teams for regular competition
  7. for some perspective In 2000, Australia beat NZ 52-0 in a mid-season test in April (and then 40-12 later that year in the world cup final) https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/matches/anzac-test-match-2000/game-1/australia-vs-new-zealand.html NZ also won the RLWC in 2008
  8. Article from Australia's ABC about netball attempting to get into the Olympics. It seems that rugby league isn't the only sport in the US that has been affected by in-fighting at the top level https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-03/netballs-conflict-in-the-usa-could-prevent-its-olympic-debut/102177966
  9. at college level there is no issue with teams playing in their own leagues and then playing end of season "bowl" matches seemingly at random against similarly placed teams could well do the same here - just need to have the same parent organisation at the top
  10. I reckon the crowds at Catalans in the first few years were artificially high due to UK fans making the trip over. I would expect fewer to go over as the years progress - they will need to make up these numbers with locals
