Who is the best player you've ever seen?

Recommended Posts

I want to say Ellery Hanley, but I'm too young to say i saw him properly.

I  hate my own question, because backs will always get the nod over forwards.. maybe separate into the 2?

Anyway, i loved Lockyer, i thought he had everything, thought he was better than Johns tbh, but that's me.

Thurston. Jesus wept. Remember when you were 14 and you thought you were good, someones dad from Cas would turn up, throw some dummies and amble through. That's Thurston. In the NRL. He's incredible. He takes the line on like Johns, but has so many subtle variations; it's beautiful to watch. He's an absolute champion. Best i've ever seen? I think so.

Oh.. Forwards,

I loved Ben Kennedy, i thought he was immense. If Scunthorpe would have payed NRL, i think he would have better, the bestest. Simply the bestest. Do the likes of Graham and Burgess surpass anything I've ever seen... if they win a world cup; probably.

Menzies? Heart Menzies.

Peacock?

Webke?

Petro?

Agree with you on Lockyer and Thurston, but when asked this question the person I always seem to think of is Peter Sterling. As for the forwards, Hanley is definatley up there but again the first person who always comes to mind is Wayne Pierce.

Probably think of loads more now that you got me started

Start away.

Geordie, Lyon has been the best centre in the world for years. Past it now, but what a player

You ask about best players we've ever seen. They (in my opinion) are the best I've seen.

Oh, I forgot Nic Zisti

Was R Powell a genuine?

Tell me why? Only saw him at Fev, would love to hear more.

How could we forget Zisti!?

At Leeds he always gave 100%. A tackling machine, always ran strongly. Maybe not the most lauded of players but in my opinion the prototype for the modern day forward.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

Great chat. Your round?

Lol. He was a fantastic athlete with great pace for a big fella and was probably the hardest hitting tackler I've ever seen. What more could you ask from a forward ? Great captain too who inspired the Balmain team.

I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally

I remember a game v Fev at Headingley, and Powell was playing out of his skin for Leeds.  But the Leeds fans around me were giving him a hard time.  Great player.  Died far too young.

Best British player I ever saw?  Neil Fox without a doubt. Second best, Hanley.  Best prop, Kevin Ward.  Best player for Fev? Deryck Fox, Brendan Tuuta, Paujl Nelove.  Best Aussie, Wally Lewis.  Phil Lowe, Bill Ashurst, Malcolm Reilly, David Topliss could all play a bit.  Best Union converts:  Lewis Jones, Jonathan Davies, Scott Gibbs. David Watkins.

Was Wayne Pearce that good?

Wayne Pearce was an absolute machine. When the 82 Kangaroos came over and blew everyone away with their skill, fitness and speed Pearce was the standout forward in all these. There were stories of him running miles to training, being the fittest there then running back. Maybe it's my memory but when somebody like Grothe or Boustead made a break he always seemed to be alongside them
