Sat 2nd-Sun 3rd Mar: 1895 Cup Quarter Finals Match Thread
RSN replied to Barley Mow's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Barrow were missing a lot of strike players. 2 top try scorers from last season Broadbent and Bulman were unavailable which meant putting a dual reg amateur on the wing (he did score twice to be fair). We were also missing Stack and Greenwood who score a lot of tries from second row. Harvey Makin (young prop) played 60 minutes at second row when Charlie Emslie got injured. Wakefield looked well drilled and organized on their line but it will be interesting to see if their line holds against better back lines. If they can then they will be very formidable. I'm a big fan of Wakefield pitch also. I've seen games across all levels (particularly super league) and think they have been a worse quality due to the pitch being too heavy but we managed to see some good fast rugby yesterday. -

Wakefield came out at a ridiculous pace to go 12-0 but after that their forwards seemed to tire a bit and Barrow competed very well and controlled a lot of game particularly in the second half. Wakefield had significantly better players in their spine and out wide hence were always a threat but Barrows scramble defence was very good. Barrow fans have come away pretty happy. I genuinely think our side is going under the radar this year particularly in the pack. -
Beaten 30 - 12. We had a shocking first 5 minutes going down 12-0 but we competed with Wakefield for a good 75 minutes and had periods of dominance. Pack was outstanding and kicking in the second half was superb along with our defence. We have a good side here, there was a lot to like about today's performance.

I'd say so. Their signings could go down as having the worst debuts collectively in super league history. -

Hull FC look like they've not trained all pre season. -

This game feels massive, I'm unsure if it's someone putting pressure on SKY to up their game (IMG or RFL) but it's absolutely fantastic to see. -

Sam Tomkins and Kyle Amor are significant improvements to the sky line up. Build up to the game has been great. -
He's just trying to wind people up. No disrespect to the players who finished the game today but Oldham had significantly more quality on the pitch at the final whistle. Most of our quality was in the stands. Full strength I think we beat Oldham, but after 60 minutes 8 or 9 of our strongest 17 wasn't on the field. What do people expect? Anyone with a rugby game can see we have the traits of a good side. We were just beaten by a clinical well experienced side today.

We don't have a game for 3 weeks which helps. Greenwood will be back. Clarke will be back. Adam Jackson passed his HIA. Tom Walker will probably be fit in 3 weeks time. Brad Walker will be fit in 3 weeks time. Gillam aiming for the 3rd game of the season. Toal and Bulman have a chance of being fit for 3 weeks time. Emslie have no idea but I'd guess he has a chance of being fit for 3 weeks time. Unfortunately Stack and Broady are banned for the 1895 cup but Stack will be back for the first league game. As I said on the other thread losing today could massively help up in preparation for the 1895 cup.

We ran out of steam by the end of the game and Oldham had far too much experience to not take advantage of it. They punished every mistake we made and there was quite a few daft individual errors. Charlie gave away a repeat set on the last tackle before the 1st try, Ryan did an incorrect play the ball before the 2nd try, Adam Jackson did a rubbish kick followed by a Brett Carter penalty before their 3rd try and the 4th try was an intercept. I honestly think losing might be a huge blessing in disguise to prepare for the season. James Greenwood and Adam Jackson went off with head knocks, Charlie went off injured. Cresswell was blatantly playing injured the last 10 minutes. Thankfully we have 2 weeks off so get a few troops back. Personally I think we looked extremely organised in attack and defence. If we improve discipline and cut out a few errors there is the makings of a very good side. I'm not concerned about today in the slightest considering by the result today as by the end of the game we had 3 injured players in the squad and 6 good players not on the field.

He's 18th man unsure who he is. Brad Walker is injured so Adam Jackson comes. Furness Raider Finn McMillan on the bench. Brett Carter moves into the centres. Going to be tough today. Missing Bulman, Clarke, Toal, Walker, Walker, Stack and Gillam who all would be in our strongest 17 and Oldhams team looks really strong.
