International Squads website

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I've always had a keen interest in international rugby league and have wanted to do this for a long time. However, I'm in the process of building an international rugby league website detailing international squads for a range of nations and tournaments,

Some of you may find my new website of use for a greater insight into international squads around the world. Feedback and advice is always welcomed.

I've started this for internationals as of this year.

Today I've updated the following...

Bookmarked - good work!

Good stuff.

Minor point: we don't use the term "friendly" in the Southern Hemisphere. The upcoming games are called the Pacific Tests.

Here are some more teams  http://www.nrl.com/representative-round-team-lists/tabid/10874/newsid/95512/default.aspx

Thanks Farmduck,

I'll go ahead and change that to 'Pacific Test' when I get chance. I'll be uploading the NZL and Australia sides as well in time - unfortunately I don't have their stats in my database as I do most other nations. Luckily I'm sure they can be easily found.

I agree with your idea Welsh. I think RL overall is 20 years behind in the digital age. If you get away from a few top leagues and their clubs, trying to find info is like pulling teeth. If you followed the official sites of Tonga, Samoa or Fiji you wouldn't even know they had played RL in the last few years.

This is particularly pathetic in OZ, NZ and England, where you'd think every amateur and bush league team has young players who spend hours a day on the Web.

I've got all of the player records for Doncaster RLFC online, and am working my way through all of the matches as well. Once thats online, should be a large amount of Donny related stuff to look through.

Will only post the link if asked, as don't want to steal OPs thunder.

Just uploaded the Fiji squad for the Pacific Test vs PNG.

Not much will change record wise, Aku Uate could well extend his record as his countries all time leading try scorer - given he plays and scores that is.

Thanks WM, a really useful site.

Whilst watching the Superleague show yesterday I was wondering, are Pritchard and Manu the only 2 SL based players to be called up for the Pacific Tests this year?  Ashton Simms was one of the pundits and I've got to admit that I'm surprised that he isn't involved with the Fiji team.  Is this a case of him not being good enough, not being seen as being good enough (due to playing in SL) or him not wanting to play?  Or some other more obvious reason that I am completely missing!?!?

Pritchard and Manu are set to captain Samoa and Tona respectively and are probably one offs in terms of UK call ups.

I imagine Ashton Sims is still good enough for Fiji, it's probably more readable however to call up Australian based players or local boys.

It may even be that they approached Warrington but they turned them down. Not sure. Ideally we need a worldwide international week in May where no club games are played anywhere and all internationals are played instead.

  • 2 years later...

Unfortunately I had to rebuild the website and it was inactive for a while...

Anyhow, it’s now back with some of the recently released international squads.

PS I haven’t included the recent Solomon Islands and Turkey squads for various reasons: a) their considerable size, b) my lack of statistics on each nation in my database.

Some nations release a squad with a ridiculous number of players in it as you alluded to above. The USA tend to do this sort of thing. Do you intend to record all players selected in these extended squads or are you waiting until they are trimmed down to a more acceptable number?

It really depends.

When the USA release 64 man squads, no. But when somebody like France release a 35 man squad, then yes I’m fine with uploading that.

If France then go an announce a trimmed 24 man squad with people who weren’t in the train on I’ll also update that. If it’s the same players, I doubt I’ll bother.

Can I ask why you'd be happy to record a 35 man French squad, which is obviously going to be cut at some point, yet not a 64 man USA squad? I'm not trying to be awkward just curious as to why you want to record players who won't actually make the final cut.

I think 35 is a more legitimately ‘earned’ squad I.e France have left out Jordan Dezaria, Hakim Miloudi, Eloi Pelissier among others.

Wheras the 65 man squad for the USA is literally all who are eligible.

I think for me that’s the key difference.
