Dreadful performance, it seems

That 34-12 Hornets loss will make for an even longer journey home and a lot of soul searching.  We could only score once in first half and again in the last minute against 12 man Barrow - so well done them. The result adds to the pressure and negates 2 of our points in hand.  Toulouse and others will be happy.  No doubt the inclusion of new recruits and drs will be cited, but this was a let down after the first half of the season. Start as you mean to go on --hopefully not as today.

Seems like the two 'star' DR men didn't make a lot of difference ?

Yep, the winners today are Toulouse and Donny, well done the Raiders. The commentary sounded pretty grim if you are a Hornets fan.

What it now means is that Toulouse can afford to lose two of the remaining '8s' games and still host the final against whoever.

Only followed via online commentary (well done again, great feature for stay at home fans)

Sounded pretty grim and we dropped ball so many times. The Wayne English situation worries me a bit he may not be quite as sharp as he used to be but he is 100% rock solid and rarely makes a mistake so to drop him twice from the match day squad isn't right IMO particularly when he is the only specialist fullback we have.
Kevin Penny is a good winger, but a winger he is and not a fullback. Let's not try and shoehorn all the DR players in all at once. It's not very often we've got the selection wrong so can't gripe to much. I'm not blaming DR at all by the way, by and large it's worked for us this season.

However it's only the second defeat of the season, so it's not the end of the world. Killer and the squad will put this right I have every confidence. Going up to Barrow 3 times in a season and winning twice can't be bad can it?
Every credit to Barrow today, well done. Let's move on eh?

This game was far from dreadful as we competed well throughout the game but just like at York we were quite simply beaten by the best team on the day. Barrow came out of the blocks with high intensity in attack and defence and they were up for it from minute one until the final whistle. Having a player sent off made no difference to them as they maintained their impetus throughout and continued to outmuscle us.

It would be unfair to call certain players but two of their tries were scored from high kicks that we bombed and I'm sure had Wayne Engish been the recipient of those kicks he would have pouched them with ease.

Yes we need to regroup for next week and get a win at Scolars.

RUGBY LEAGUE WITHOUT ROCHDALE HORNETS IS LIKE AN UNSHARPENED PENCIL, THERES NO POINT?

Sorry Ornit, I think you were watching a different game from me. The performance was embarrassing and worse than dreadful. Barrow played with passion and aggression, and scored with vertually every attack when in Hornets 22. Easy tries!!!!  No defence !!!!!

On the other hand Hornets were woeful in attack, lacking ideas in Barrows 22.  Do we have any planned moves when in scoring positions?

I couldn't go to the game as I'm on holiday. Regarding Wayne, is there a safer pair of hands under the high ball ? I reckon he drops one a season.

Firstly let me say that's the best barrow have played since we put 70 into Leigh when the des was in charge 2009

Rochdale have soundly beat us twice this year and were the best side down craven park since Oldham last year

Every team has one or two bad games per season so dont be so hard on your team

It makes me laugh barrow have may be 6 players from Leigh on season long loans and full time yet the forum slate Rochdale for having a couple of duel reg

Good luck hornets for the rest of the season

I have to concur with the comment Re the loan players at Barrow. But, I do think that the loan system is better than the DR route.

After Toulouse I think Rochdale are the best team that I have seen this season (with my Bears hat on). With Barrow as the 3rd best.

I really do believe that including Penny and Lineham fired up the Raiders to raise their game.

So, today was a bad day at the office for the Hornets and may well have reminded them that if they want promotion games against teams like Barrow will never be easy.

In the long run today may be a blessing in disguise. You guys are probably still favourites to get the second berth in the promotion stakes. I hope that that is not a poisoned chalice.

Best game for a long time I mean years

Liam once more a real Spartan

How good would we be in the half backs with Campbell and dallimore with there never say die attitude

Can't see hankinson down there next season real class act

And young Brad is getting better and stronger every game

Regarding the fan in the stand who was from Rochdale

He had a argument with a Rochdale director and didn't like the reply given

This form continues and I might miss my trip to Toronto

Glad you're laughing jcd, that's more than the Rochdale coach is doing today..

The season long loan system is an excellent concept which can fit in well with a teams structure and good luck to Barrow for using it to the full. DR is a strategic tool which is being abused by people like Killshaw in an effort to gain an unfair advantage for games of his choosing. I for one am very happy to see his plans scuppered, for at least one game anyway.   And playing the excellent Kev Penny at FB seems such a waste...

jcd we have three loan players from Leigh not six. Hankinson and Pitman and Harper . They apart from Eze have been with us for two years. They were Leigh reserve players when they came to Barrow not first team SL players. Bullock and Ward are Barrow Players.

I know the DR thing has been done to death on forums over the past few years. When it was introduced the idea in theory was to give young players at SL clubs the chance to play regular competitive RL. Kev Penny, at 28 and even Lineham at 24  seem to abuse this 'unwritten' rule IMO. Why not impose an age limit, say 21 for DR to really give the younger players a chance ?

The transfer deadline for C1 clubs expired last friday I believe so why not have similar restrictions on DR players or, at least have a ruling that disallows players who havent played more than say, 6 C1 games during the regular season. This would prevent C1 clubs from potentially 'buying' promotion from C1 ?

Perhaps it's a knee jerk reaction to say that we were worse than dreadful, Barrow did to us exactly what York have done successfully to us twice this season. Why do we always say that it was us that played badly rather that admitting how good the opposition was. Several Barrow supporters near me were honest enough to say that it was the best Barrow performance of the season.

We are not sat in second spot in the league table through poor play and I think it's right that sometimes we have to hold ours hands up and accept defeat on the day.

As least we have plenty of time to redeem ourselves.

I concur that was Barrows best performance of the season. Hornets were not bad just we were up for it especially after going down to 12 men just before half time. good luck in your other games

We were saying this at the game yesterday. Limit it to players who haven't played Superleague and/or a limited amount  of first team games at Championship level up to the age of say 21.  I feel sure the three lads you dropped to get your Superleague players in would have given 100% which is more than your three Superleague players did. Penny tried his best not to be tackled the whole match preferring to throw the ball to anybody else as soon as Barrow advanced on him! I think they were told not to get hurt!

I don't think you played badly you were just outplayed - it happens! There are games we shouldn't have lost on paper but did! It happens to all teams!

Match reports/comments indicate basically (kindly?) that we were error prone and Barrow (a good side, coming better at the right time) wanted it more than Hornets.  The points we have in hand can soon be eradicated by the remaining experienced teams we have yet to face and Skolars away will be no pushover.  And we may yet again meet our nemesis York given news of their salvation. Missing our four backline regulars does not help matters, but two of the drs have filled in previously this season.  Certainly surprised at Pennys selection given that Lee was also on the team sheet at one point (along with Roper) and I can only assume that English is injured?  It's hard to kick the habit of winning - so let's get back to the full dosage.

We have had a great season so far and congratulations to Alan Kilshaw on his League 1 coach of year award and to his support staff.

Wayno is NOT injured gremlin. He wasn't selected.

He was left out after the York game. Why, I don't know. Nobody played well that day but he was probably our best player in my opinion.

From what I've seen he's still our best full back. It could be he's being left out for other reasons than on the field performances. However I have no knowledge that this is the case and nothing has been revealed by the coaching staff.

Having said that it sounds like we could have had Billy Slater playing at full back and we would have still lost so I'm not making excuses.
