Question Time (4th Feb 2016)

Recommended Posts

So, the panellists for tomorrow's show are:

Amber Rudd (Conservative)

Shabana Mahmoud (Labour)

Sal Brinton (Lib Dems)

Nigel Farage (Kippers)

Isabel Oakeshotte (Journalist)

Farage?  Again?  FFS...  He's like a rancid smell that you just can't get rid of regardless of how many times you try.

You'll have Rudd and Mahmoud waffling on not committing anything, Brinton trying to sound relevant and Farage spouting populist Trump-like rubbish.  It'd have been good if they'd had a SNP MP on there as they're probably the most solidly committed pro-EU party given the likely subjects raised.

I might give it a miss.

Source of the Cameron Pig-gate anecdote.

Apple source?

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Yes. You and I have not won.

It will be worth watching just to see Farage go into apoplectic and mouth-foaming meltdown.

Nah, I think most people are fed up with his spluttering, faux indignation. Like Boris, his act has turned into self-parody.

Australian style points system, small country and migrants coming for jobs.  That's my bets on his answers.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Oh, it's the "migrants coming for jobs" turn this time around is it? It must be "migrants coming for benefits" turn next time he's on the box.

He's dropped the "migrants coming for benefits"  line for the moment so he can attack Dave's big deal.

also would like to see Oakeshotte exposed for the mendacious fabricator she is.

And you know that for certain how?

She only repeated Michael Ashcroft's allegations, presumably in good faith.

I stopped watching Question Time a long time ago. Week after week of poorly assembled panels, chaired by an increasingly out of touch Dimbleby, eventually became too much. There was a panel recently with a Labour MP up against a Tory, a Kipper, and two of Murdoch's people - whoever put that together needs sacking. It's just blatantly stacking not only the panel but the debate as a whole.

It's a shame they brought the show to Bradford and then didn't have anyone from Bradford on the panel. What's the point?

It's not like we don't already know what people like Farage will say, whether you agree with it or not, because we've all heard it a thousand times or more.

Bradford has some interesting, high profile political figures on all sides of the spectrum. Whether you like or agree with them or not, people like Naz Shah (Labour, Bradford West), Phillip Davies (Conservative, Shipley), David Ward (former Lib Dem MP for Bradford East) would have made up a more varied and relevant panel, and could comment with some degree of authority on issues of concern to an audience drawn from Bradford.

Apart from seeing if there is anyone in the audience I recognise, there is absolutely nothing about this show with that panel that draws me to watch it.

The standard of proof she required for an allegation to go in her book was lower than some of the rumours that do the rounds on the forum here.

I was going to ask what the questions were. Then I realised. Farage? Questions? Does it matter? Same answers whatever.

Question Time seems to have regressed in this regard in recent years.

I remember a previous occasion some years ago when the programme came from Bradford and the Bulls' then chief executive Abi Ekoku was a panellist.

What's frustrating is the over-exposure of some panellists, like Farage, and the under-exposure of voices that could send a strong regional message. If they are going to have a journalist on the panel I can't see for the life of me why it shouldn't be, for example, the editor of the Yorkshire Post, as the major regional news outlet.

And I agree with your points about local politicians. I'm sure that a combination of Naz Shah and Phillip Davies would lead to some interesting debate that would be refreshing because we haven't seen them before in this context.

Or indeed the editor of a leading weekly rugby league paper.;)

`I don't think the Labour Party machine is keen to push Naz Shah for the time being, or the Tory Party machine  to push Philip Davies at all.

If the Labour Party still has such a machine, it certainly seems to backfire a lot these days! :(

Both Naz Shah and Phillip Davies are frequently in the media, that's why they are widely known outside of Bradford.

Neither are shrinking violets.

Also, with regard to the above, even if Shah and Davies were unavailable for whatever reason,  I refuse to accept there isn't a single other political voice anywhere in Bradford more interesting than any of those selected to appear on the panel.

Pop down to the next 'Politics in the Pub' event in Bradford and you'll hear far more interesting debate than Question Time will ever produce.
