Leigh, London then daylight

Recommended Posts

Fair play to the Broncos they have quietly gone about their business and are neck and neck with Leigh at the top. It was also a very competitive game between the two when they met recently.

Big gap now between those two and the rest. London might not be strong enough to get promotion but the new system will give them some high profile fixtures in the final part of the season. Looks like Andrew Henderson is doing a great job there.

Hard to say if Leigh are stronger or weaker than last year but still going well.

Agreed.

Mr Henderson presents a good case for himself as coach.

It looks like significant progress has been made since relegation.

Still quite a way to go but from what I gather the signs are good for London, which make a pleasant change.  If London keep winning then their game against Leigh in June will be quite a match!

Good to see a revitalised London doing well, the move toTrailfinders appears to be paying off on the field. Their marketing has improved too and their emails show that they are making particular efforts to woo business people to come to various events.

At the risk of being knocked back by other Leigh fans and it is my opinion not theirs, my thoughts are that even with the high profile signings I do not feel that Leigh are not as savvy on the offensive as they have been in the last 2 seasons, previously we let a pass beat a defender, presently we have to show the opposition how strong we are and try to run through them first, we seem so much slower both on the ground and between the earholes.

Saying all that, we have not had the luxury of playing all our newcomers to the club in same team this season, hence we have never fielded our strongest team, so that we keep winning (just) is a plus, but there is a lot of improvement needed if we are to challenge for promotion in the 8's.

In 2014 and the first half of last year Leigh played a brand of rugby which I hadn't seen for a while. They were a genuine threat from all over the field and, of course, troubled Leeds, Warrington and Wakefield in the cup. It was the movement of ball through hands which was the most obvious - although they did suffer in game management a little in the second half or crucial games last year. Rowley departing may see them move away from that style which is a shame for neutrals who enjoyed watching them.

A full strength Leigh are still the best in the division by a fair stretch.

11 games left with us still to play everyone other than Bradford and Sheffield Twice. We're 4 points short of our entire regular season total last year and if we want to cement top 2 placings, then wins against Fev (A) and Haven (H) before the "bash" need to be secured. It would be a fantastic achievement to secure 2nd spot after the dire performances last year with us getting to host the bottom 2 SL sides and  3rd/4th in the championship.

Whilst I doubt we'd have a prayer of going up, Hosting Bradford and Leeds again would boost the coffers of the club and should attract more local businesses to the club!

Crowd 1524 according to London's official site. I would imagine a good clutch of Bulls fans but it must be their biggest gate for a while and higher than some of their last games in SL.

Largest last season was 1101, against Bradford oddly enough. It was also bigger than all bar two of our games in SL in 2014 (2013 v Wigan and 1791 v St. Helens). Looks like we're doing something right at last!

Once a certain CEO had collected every lowest attendance record for every visiting SL side and decided jumping was better than the alternative, the club had fallen as far as it was going to. 2015 was all about finding our feet at a different level and 2016 looks like we've found them.

A regular gate of 1,000 (half of those ST holders) should be the minimum target for 2017, with a schedule to grow that by 10% YOY for 10 years.

Were you saying "the club had fallen as far as it was going to" at the beginning of the season?

The 10% YOY is going to depend on a lot of different factors many of them outside the control of London Broncos. A return to the SL would undoubtedly impact on those figures I think.

If London are promoted at the end of the season, will they be able to remain at the current ground or be forced to move?

They should be forced to move in my opinion - at least for bigger games. The club cannot grow at Trailfinders. My preference would be a long term ground share with Brentford or Wimbledon (when they get the new ground)

Will Mr, Hughes accept promotion? Especially if he has to rent expensive stadia.

Will he want to return to seasons of losing all the time??

It would be ironic if London did win the precious £Million game and then turn promotion down.

Still Whitehaven allegedly blew a grand final to avoid promotion.

Do the rules currently say that you need a decent ground?

The way the game has been run in the UK the last 5 years or so with TV rights sold without fully testing the market, Competition sponsorship consisting of painting the sides of trucks! i wouldn't be surprised if there is nothing in the rules about your ground as an entry condition of Super League. As well as winning promotion to Super League on the field,  a club should have to meet standards in regards to sponsorship/funding being in place, Junior Pathways and a Stadium that meets Super league standards!

That said the lack of minimum standards could work in favor of the Londinium Equos

Minimum standards were all but dropped under the new structure.

The biggest concern is the fact there is only one entrance. Could be pandemonium for big crowds.

That being said, 3k in the Trailfinders would be a miles better atmos than 3k at Quins (or Brentford)

1. Yes, I believe I said it a number of times that we'd hit rock bottom and the only way was up. I am still of the opinion that the corporate side of the business/club is being run badly, but that is just my opinion not 'gospel'.

2. 10% is the minimum YOY figure. With no data to go on as attendances are kept hush hush, it's difficult to gauge where we are as a club, but if you take 500 as the current seasons average, the real aim should be to re-engage lapsed fans as well as inviting local kids to games this summer. COLLECT DATA and ENGAGE these people in dialogue after their visits. I recently walked up to the trestle table, bought my ticket and that was it.......no engagement, no attempt to capture my contact details, nothing. I watched a very entertaining victory cheered on by a knowledgeable and jovial crowd, shared a pint with some old friends and that was it....no attempt to get me back!  If things have "changed for the better" then brilliant, but the stark reality is that we are playing games on a fenced pitch, with a few hundred seats and rely on bigger clubs like Bradford to deliver our bumper crowds.

10% for ten years is only 2.5k.

2,600.....and that's a decent rate of growth for any business.
