See Star report below. Do we need to play a recognised goal kicker? John Coleman looked pretty good when he did some kicking.

Blow to Eagles as top pair ruled out for season

Sheffield Star, Published Date: 05 May 2010

By James Collins

FULL-BACK Jonny Woodcock and prop forward Jack Howieson face being ruled out for the rest of the season for Sheffield Eagles.

Woodcock is to have surgery on a knee injury and club captain Howieson is expected to learn that he needs an operation on a bicep injury.

The loss of two senior players with more than half the season to go cast a shadow over the Eagles 64-24 win against Whitehaven at the weekend.

"You don't want to lose big players midway through the season but I'm not going to moan, in this game we accept injuries," said coach Mark Aston. "People will come in and it's up to them to take their chance and do a job for the team."

Woodcock, 29, is facing his longest injury lay-off since he started playing rugby as an eight-year-old.

He injured the knee at Barrow last month and had hoped to be back in six weeks.

"I can't believe it. My rehab seemed to be going all right but there was something not quite right," he said.

I went to see a knee specialist - and he's pretty sure it's my cruciate ligament. I go for an operation next Tuesday.

"The best-case scenario is three to four month,s the worst is six months. So I'm going into the operation 'blind' not knowing the outcome."

Woodcock, a teacher in Brinsworth, Rotherham, is in his fifth season with the Eagles.

In 107 games the goal-kicking full-back has scored 918 points.

Howieson, the club's longest serving player and in his testimonial season, faces surgery on a bicep he damaged two games ago."

Still think a really good playmaker would be good - pity Wood went!!!

I'm sorry...were you not at the game on Monday!!? Looked like we had too many playmakers at one stage! Lindsay, Groom, Cook in the centre of the field were ace. Not to mention the contributions from Dane McDonald, Ropati, Misi... ;)

That must be why we have won 2 games out of 8 - yes I was there and for 45 minutes we didn't know where we were going!
