2017 Fixtures

Hardly has the dust settled on the 2016 season and the 2017 fixtures are just around the corner..last year it was October 18 th.Assuming same fixture format...probably too difficult to fit in a 28 game home/away season for 15 teams...will it be a trip to Toronto ??League 1 looks a better bet than the Championship(7 trips to Yorkshire / 3 to Manchester)...with possible trips to Keighley/York maybe Toronto and the Welsh teams ..not forgetting Coventry /Oxford etc and the Jam eaters up the coast.Hopefully the Team finishing top gets automatic promotion with playoffs for the other spot .

The plan is that the first competitive game (League 1 cup) will be staged on 19 Feb.

Throw in a few pre-season warm ups and there's hardly time to let the Christmas pudding go down.

scrap the stupid nonsense cup and get a play everyone home and away in the league set up like err well most other sports leagues operate. Promote the winner of the league and the remaining top 4 clubs play off with a final somewhere glitzy to round the season off !! But no this is RL

Here is my forecast Toronto's first six fixtures in NO particular order will be South Wales,Oxford,Hemel, Coventry, North Wales and Gloucestershire Old Golds

Nothing would surprise me !

Saying that, Toulouse had an easy start to their league season after a 'testing' trip to a boggy Wath Brow

encounter. Point is, did the easy league start actually help TO ? I'm not convinced. I reckon a tougher

opening would have toughened the team up instead of lulling them into a false sense. I wonder if the RFL

are working on an 'easy' start to their Championship rather than making them play HKR, Bulls, London etc

early doors ?

BARROW RAIDERS FIXTURES 2017

4th March. bye

12th March. Coventry. A

25th March. Hemel. H

8th April. Workington. H

14th April Newcastle. A

6th May. S Wales. H

14th May. Keighley. A

20th May. Toronto. A

3rd June. Hunslet. H

11th June. Doncaster. A

17th June. N Wales. H

24th June London. A

1st July. Gloucester AG H

8th July. Oxford. H

16th July. Whitehaven. A

The obvious enough problems as I can see is only 7 home games, 2week gap between 14th April-6th May?

If we do not finish in the top three then we are not going to have many more home games, depending on the luck of the draw for the CC for a home draw? What a mess, RL are obviously determine to do away with Championship 1. WHY WHY WHY at this level do we not have all clubs playing each other home and away, along with the CC, with the top two at the end of the season gaining promotion. Instead of the totally pointless play offs, and shield comp's. I would like to know how RL expect clubs to prosper, or at least try to prosper with a fixture formula like this? Taking it for granted that Workington, & Whitehaven have similar fixtures RL have done away with three Cumbrian derby's as we only play each other once. Toronto have only just joined but only play half the teams at home, which is not fair on the clubs having to travel to Toronto at this level with players having jobs outside RL, in some cases clubs may not be able to take there strongest teams due to work comitments but teams only playing Toronto at home will have a much better chance of fielding a strong side barring injuries. Well done RL well thought out lol.

It's a near on perfect description of this season, from what I can see on a selfish stance is it will be pointless buying a season ticket for this year, the club will need to be either very inventive or very disciplined in the management of this years finances, running a rugby club has just got harder for those at our level.

How does this affect the Early Bird Season Tickets?

Will that include the IPRO Cup games as it guarantees a minimum of 10 home games?

Why the RFL have continued with this format is ridiculous. York are 99% definite to start next season so once again some teams will have 8 home games and some only seven. Also Toronto in the Super 8 system away for 4 teams and finally an away game for team that finishes 2nd behind them in the playoffs. Or will Toronto play all their Super 8 and play off game in the UK which makes far more sense all round?

York are almost guaranteed to start the season giving us a home tie instead of our Bye. The format is this coming season that the team winning the super 8's is automatically promoted with teams 2 to 5 going into a playoff. These fixtures are only until the super 8'S start then depending on league position teams will have either a further 3 or 4 home games.

We dont have great home fixtures this coming season in the first part of the league and I do feel hard done by, however Keighley were in the same boat last season. I'm afraid until home and away fixtures return there is nothing we can do to change these this season (believe me I tried) so all we can do is continue to support and watch the Raiders as we really push for promotion this season coming.

We will need as much support as we can get when the lower tier teams come to play us to finance all we are and hoping to achieve with Barrow Raiders. All your bums in the stands and feet in the popular end is not just financing the team but its ensuring the future of Proffessional Rugby League in South Cumbria through development programmes, Club and ground development and local association with clubs and schools. If fans decide they dont want to watch these games the only people who suffer are the Club, schools and the Players who knock their pan out even against weaker opposition.

The only way to progress out of this division is with the support of the fans no matter what is thrown at the Club fixture wise. I hope to see you all at the games (even the ones we are expected to win) as we need a fantastic atmosphere for the good of all.

PS dont forget the Academy U19's games on a Wednesday. Come and see the future stars of Cumbria and Barrow Raiders its great value and great entertainment.

Your bye will be converted to a home game against York as we will be made to play most of the top teams away because of the disruption we have caused. We will undoubtedly be given only 7 home games as well.

If true Whitehaven will have 8 home games, and 6 away games, not required to travel to Toronto, all they need for a triple jackpot is for the rfl to allow them to have mr hewer ref all their games, stranger things have happened.

No team should have more than one home game more than away games. Therefore I assume their bye will be away to York. So that's 2 Cumbria teams that have more home than away games!

Changing the day the Raiders play to a Saturday night after you sell season tickets doesn't help! Yes I will support the Raiders and yes they have my money for my season ticket but I will think twice next year as I will be out of pocket this year.....

Sorry to hear that Phil it was not intentional just an oversight on our part. Perhaps we can make it up to the season ticket holders who cant make the game on a Saturday. I have a couple of ideas to put to the Board that I hope you will be happy with. :)

Before York decision fixtures are:

                                                           Home         Away

Barrow                                                  7                7

Coventry                                               7                7

Donny                                                   8                6

Hemel                                                   7                7

Hunslet                                                 7                7

Keighley                                               7                7

London                                                 8                6

Newcastle                                            6                8

North Wales                                         7                7

Oxford                                                  6                8

South Wales                                        7                7

Toronto                                                6                8

All Golds                                              6                8

Whitehaven                                         8                6

Workington                                          8                6

So I guess the RFL knew that York were going to start and "balance" out the fixtures.

Would still prefer home and away. No iPro cup. And a full-blooded CC competition that again captures the imagination of the fans and media! Raiders beat Wigan with a last minute drop goal at Craven Park! We can but dream!

I personally missed most of the games last season due to work commitments and my wife only used 3 tickets from her season ticket book. When you look at the cost in comparison to the gain Phil only needs to make 7 games out of the possible 11 or 12 home games to save money.

I must correct you as we did not mislead season ticket holders, the early early bird was advertised as it is £99 each. there is nowhere we said games would be on a Sunday, however as I say I will look at how we can reach a happy medium.
