Farewell to Stevo

If you have rocks in your head or you are a diddlydonk you will be sad to see him leave sky sports and will want to watch the giddyness and back slapping at 6.40 on sky sports 3 On Friday. As one of the original customers of sky sports I have been forced to witness his biased commentary and opinions of the oppinion of not wanting to let any championship club into super league and being part of the clique to favour mergers(even though he played for Dewsbury he said they were small time and needed to merge with Batley) .He was in favour of us merging with wakey and cas and being called Calder. To him I say #### off and take Peacock and Mourice Lindsay (if hes still alive) with you and go rent a flat together in Syria.

Dont have murdochvision. Never have had.

Bug ger that.....

What does make me chuckle is those who use the ever improving streaming services or gizmos that rip off the Murdochs for nowt.

I have little but contempt for the entire family

Youre right on your first point the young Rovers fans probably dont realise that the reason why we were dumped into the championship in the first place (whilst not finishing in a relegation position)is mainly due to him.On your second point I have actually read on the internet that there are more and more people getting rid of there sky dishes and boxes and are streaming for free .Gonna have to look into this as I currently have Sky full package in three rooms of my house(mainly for the grand kids) and its costing me a fortune every month.Been offered a dodgy box but wife is too honest and wont allow it in the house(thinks Police will come to the house).

A mate of mine has one of the magic boxes and watches sport from all over the place. He say's he can even get the channels you don't want the wife to see on your statement, classed as entertainment  i think.TC's book All The Wrong Moves is a real good read very informative of the in's and out's in RL.

The boxes are spot on, make sure you have decent internet though. Sky is just a rip off, with most of sport getting moved to diffrent channels that you have to pay an extra tenna for. 17 quid for the kell brook fight aswell, decent 5 rounds entertainment but rubbish undercard. You get the lot on the boxes. So ive been told

The current edition of Rugby League Journal has a very funny reference to the ins and outs when Maurice Bamford recalls an incident when he went to sign Tony Halmshaw.

There's also an excellent article by Ron Bailey about Fev's 1961-62 season in which they reached the semi's of both the cup and the championship- Fantastic read!

Been spoiling super league on sky for years. His utilizing, shud of been a penalty, give away silly penalty and his coach will be fuming amongst others are plain embarrassing.

Amateur and self importance isnt pretty

Noticed that over the past few appearances has become slightly more critical about the game and its format. Good to tell that he is leaving the fold.

Will make way for another member of the "clique".

What really gets me is there is no commentary on matches shown. Stevo particularly talks about what the team should do next, the past history of a player, his opinion of the referee, the decisions he doesn't approve of and then we get interjections from the other members of the 'team'. meanwhile the game is going on without any commentary. Suddenly somebody breaks through and the score that follows is commented on as an aside to their thoughts on many other things. Goodbye and good riddance.

True and that tactical conversation between that Carney and that nom de plume ??ex london winger or sumat absolutely bores the t##s off me and then there was that unbelievable embarrassing swingometer from Phil Clarke that got scrapped after the first airing cos everyone were laughing their t##s off.Do what I do from time to time watch it without the volume on.Incidentally how vain is Eddie Hemmings dyeing his hair at his age .Bring back RLAction at least the people were normal.

To get the RL action people back you'd have to thaw out Keith Macklin.

Way out was the bloke with that quote, not comparing apples with apples either.

Last time in top flight, correct me if I'm wrong, we finished mid table, got to the semi final of the challenge cup and averaged crowds of over 3,500.

Think only time you see 'hundreds' down Fev is in pre season friendlies. Do you think he would ever say the same about London? 600 there when we played them other week - we took circa 100 and there was free admission for all the ladies. 600!!!

Wonder if he will give special mention to Dewsbury at the weekend - hope so - doubt it.

IMO James, they are just protecting their jobs and most likely operating

under instructions from Sky. Noticed that the post match interview with,

correct me if I am wrong, a Wigan player. The player commenced to

heavily criticise the league set up, he was immediately pulled back into

line by the interviewer. What has happened to free speech and personal

opinions? Sky, with the support of the gambling industry. is slowly strangling

every aspect of sport in this country even though their financial offerings appear to be attractive on paper.

Stevo was (well) paid by SKY so there was really little point listening to anything he had to say about the sport in general.

As a commentator he changed from being simply annoying & cliched into some kind of sad parody of himself talking incoherent nonsense.

Just like Ray French and Eddie Waring he went on far too long and should have packed in years ago.

However, just like the above two, even though his commentaries are awful, he did try to do something for the game off-camera and built up a memorabilia and history collection which will form part of the National Rugby League Museum. The fact that he was so genuinely interested in the sport's history in some ways makes his "outspoken" views all the more dreadful.
