With cricket in bright sun its usually best to underexpose and try pull back the shadows in post or if using Nikon use Active D Lighting

Good shots to use your example. I'm hoping to head down to the local cricket club one lazy Sunday afternoon over the summer, so useful tips cheers. :)

Just picked up a copy of my local newspaper, & my photo has been published that I sent to them, with a name credit, although it was slightly edited to be trimmed for size

Very good point - incidentally how much would you charge?

Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

Depends on the paper, nobodies getting rich in my neck of the woods selling to the local daily paper, not now its readership is only a shade over 6k a day.

As a starter for 10 I'd refer back to here for anything on a recurring basis.

Interesting about papers using photos. I have regularly sent pics to the local papers to promote the Tigers. I don't charge, but this is partly because I'm doing it to get the club in the press and to be honest like my pics being published. They sometimes remember to credit me.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Ask the paper if they will give you a free advert in the paper about the same size as they will print your photo, wait for their reply......................................................................... and thats why you should charge them for your photos.

Er... as it was my first contact with them, and it wasn't that great a photo, I let them have it for free, next time I might wil charge them

Problen with giving them stuff for free is you'll have a job now convincing them to pay and why should they you've set the precident.  If your looking to start charging them at some point you'd be better off spending this season getting a portfolio together and then pitching for the gig next season with a rate attached.

If your just after seeing your stuff in print and your name at the bottom you might as well self publish, get together with a club, use there match reports, your pics, publish an e-book at the end of the season and split the profits with them.

Fair do's and in Bedford I'd imagine if you didn't then they probably wouldn't send anyone down to cover your matches so its good publicity for you as a club and your sponsors, were as in Wigan my view is if you want rugby shots send your own guy down or pay for mine!

Talking of photographs, couldn't they have found a better one of Johnny Giles for his Wikipedia page?

I'd have posted this in the May comp, but Padge chose the wrong colour.

Hopefully the displays will develop rather more over the next few weeks.

Had a trip down the road to Hardcastle Crags with my local photography group last night. Whilst most people rushed off to Gibson Mill, I had a wonder through the woods and down by the river instead. Here's a couple of my efforts.
