My first impression is that I didn't get my wish for a decent fixture at Toulouse (Batley play there on the 4th Feb) and will miss out on that trip once more. C'est la vie!

Just checked for flights to Toulouse.

£94 return from Manchester Friday- Monday

with flybe

That's pretty good isn't it? And a nice city too I believe - shame that I shall miss it.

Well first three fixtures for the Rams will be good victories .

First three for Batley will be certain defeats -Good stuff.

If our mystery signing is Thurston or Inglis, you could be right, if it's Tim Spears or somebody exciting like that, four out of six points will be a result.

Looking at the fixtures and even given our traditional inconsistencies .... rounds 14 to 18 look very challenging!! 3 tough away games ... the bash and the Bulls at home!!! .. I don't see many points there !!! Can anyone see more than 7 wins next year?

I see no reason to see us getting more than 7 wins but you never know with our lot. Interesting that you highlight a tough period. Given that GM is incapable of motivating the team for games against less fancied opposition there is no reason to think we will do better in the first three games than the rest. One things for sure our inconsistency will continue.

You have the opportunity to get off to a good start and build some confidence in the team and fans. Having said that if you don't get some points early on it will be a long season!

That's a given then is it Nick?

There will be no point going at all next season I presume.

You do remember life pre GM (and Thackeray) I hope. It wasn't sweetness, roses, honeybees then was it?

It's your shout BSJ but I'll still be going. Ups and downs is part of the game . Just a shame we do it so well.

It's come round to that time of year again when the camp divides itself. In the red corner the pessimists like me and Nick, who can't see the point in going next season, just as we couldn't see the point in  going for the last forty odd seasons, and yet we will - just to prove to ourselves things haven't improved. In the blue corner, will be the bright eyed, bushy tailed optimists who, despite all indications to the contrary, will be wondering which of the top four spots we will occupy come the middle eights. Personally, I'm glad I'm in the old farts camp, because I know I will NEVER be disappointed, while those poor souls that are away with the fairies will always be dogged by crushing disappointment - usually within the first couple of games. Point ? -  of course there's a point, even if it only means I get an extra large glass of consolatory/ celebratory wine on Sunday evenings without censure from the significantly better half.

GOR -- I trust your glass of wine will be half empty rather than half full....

I'm not in either corner, think we have a half decent squad, not sure how the new players will fare, but if we can sort our half back problem, we will be a decent team and we won't implode financially.

Good. I'm glad the stalwarts are sticking around - my season ticket went in the post today I'm told.

Half full or half empty - there's always room for more wine. ;)

Swapping Leatherbarrow for Brambani played a large part in Batley's resurgence last season.

What's the solution to your half back problem, do you think?

Looking at what we have available, unless Wakey have a surfeit of good halfbacks, there isn't one.  :(

You can all hold this against me if I'm wrong but majority of players we get from Wakey will be forwards. Won't surprise me to see Keegan Hirst in red amber and black for a large chunk of the season.

Jordan Crowther a second rower will be coming, Max Jowitt a full back might come and play someone in the back line. Chris Annakin a second rower, Anthony Walker spent half last season at Whitehaven, Reece Lyne a centre winger possibly and they gave 12 months to a young winger this week maybe he'll come for a knees up.

Is Anthony England still there for 2017?

No half backs!
